A restoration for Iris

  1. I think they're for vents on a Brazilian bay, we always weld them up

Do folks usually grind the welds flush on the floor?

Personally not the ones in the troughs though if they annoyingly grew a nipple I'd whip that off.

Cool. It seemed wasted effort to do them all given its only going to get a floor on top of it (and I quite like the look of plug welds tbh).

Your plug welds are things of beauty, trying to bring them flush would inevitably damage the floor and end up looking and being worse all round, plus look how many you have!

I found hotter = quicker, better penetration and flatter, sometimes they'd be barely above the steel and then I'd be happy. :)

Yeah I originally turned it down a bit from what I'd done on the jacking points etc but found it better going with the same setting and doing it for a shorter time like you say. Afternoon off it today for once. Time for a BBQ!

  9. as zedd says better putting plank across when doing floor , your weight on the panel also causes distoration , nice job

Cheers mate. This stage of the resto is much more enjoyable than cutting out rot! Starting to look van shaped again.

Yeah its perfect for us, hope to store it under the R&R bed. Welding's improved a lot over the last few months, glad I stuck at it.

I'm going to put an order in for next month for a big batch of panels (Gen front arches, rear arches, front clip, deformation panel etc).
Who would you recommend for rear arches? I've been impressed with most of the Schofield's stuff I've ordered so was planning on going with them for that (is there a TLB discount code - I think I have discount codes for most of the other suppliers).

Think I'm going to go for this lot:

    Front Arches:

    Rear Arches:

Can anyone see anything in the above that I'd regret? Best quality from what I can tell with gen front ones (everywhere else seems to be out of stock), and schofield rear repairs. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

The price of the rears says it all. Sadly better ones are not available AFAIK.

Yeah struck me as cheap. Hey ho. Better that than Klookers I guess?

Auto Craft only do early arches, they are nice and thick but it caused them to be misshapen, as far as I know only one company makes late bay rear arches, genuine arches are best, be careful as some suppliers strongly imply they sell genuine when they aren't, the Schofield one look genuine to me

Cheers guys. I'll go with the schofields in that case. I did see the autocraft ones but as you say they're early ones (I've had a lot from autocraft thus far - jacking points, I beams etc and always impressed).

Does any one have a picture of their O/S middle sill? Does it extend below the inner sill's bottom lip? Ours was non-existent so I have no point of reference, from what I can tell it is a little taller. The outer sill then sits against it presumably at the same height as the inner sill?
