So having never been in a chain, how does it work, we can't move out until the place we're going to is empty and the peeps who are having ours the same, i'm told completions happen on a friday but we want to move on the saturday so how does it work? if you "exchange" on friday is it just a case of all playing nice and living in your "old house" one night?
Not normally. Usually its a Friday, unless presumably the whole chain agrees. Also bare in mind that solicitors and estate agents are absolute fcuktards and will probably keep you hanging around for most of the day.
I'd just ring the vendors of the house you are moving too, and those moving in to yours - see of they are on the same day as you. Leave it clean, take meter readings and I took the front door key to the estate agents I sold through (I labelled all the other keys and left them in the kitchen.
this is what i thought, there's no chance it's all gonna happen on a friday, for 1 i won't be able to get a van from work and 2 i ain't wasting a days holiday. presume the sol's will have to ask us all a suitable date anyway.
The legality of it is that once you own the property it's yours so rent etc can be charged for over stay solicitors fees and so on, basically everyone moves at once and gets everyone they can to help or else pays a moving company, you move out Friday then into your new house at your leisure, 1 days holiday in 18 years for moving house isn't that much of a hardship, is it
Remember. You own all the light and plug sockets, don't forget to take all your old ones to the new house as you won't have any there!
Garden fences too. Disclaimer. I am joking, although this did happen to me when I bought a repossessed property to let out once.
Yes BUT solicitors don't work most days and even less on Saturdays so if you have problems you can't sort it until Monday, I assume that Friday is the best day as it gives people the best chance to get in a settled over the weekend
When we moved last year our sale went through with all monies exchanged at 12.45 on the Friday and we were packed up and out, the house we were moving into's money exchange hadn't gone through so we had to wait outside homeless with all our belongings till 4.30 till the phone call came. Moving house is just a money making scam for solicitors and estate agents and needs a big shake up
^this. Don't forget to also take any interesting garden plants and, if you've got pricey Laura Ashley stuff, the wallpaper as well.
