You have to laugh, generally the "professionals" involved see it as their right to help themselves to a large wodge of your cash for doing as little as possible. Can't wait to have them round any day now...
Get slapping my boy. I've an unused brevil toaster and meat tenderiser mallet that's ear marked for my buyers solicitors. We've had to get my buyer to tell them to do their jobs. He's as keen to get in as I am out.
Just so you know it's not just you Ricky. My Father in law has been waiting months now. We have completely relocated all our building crap off his land, I've sold and moved my container, we've scrapped 4 vehicles, emptied a 60' long barn of years worth of building stores. It took 4 men a week just on the barn and yard clearing, plus 3 skips and 100 tonnes of other building waste. We also cleared a double garage and room above. He still has the normal house packing to do. He has now been renting a house @ £800 PCM for two months and hasn't moved a thing there, it's sits empty. We have also bought business premises to move everything useful into and even that took 5 months to go through, but still got done quicker than his house sale. This is mainly down to his buyer using a conveyancing firm rather than a solicitor. I am never selling anything to anyone who hasn't got a real solicitor in a real office in a town nearby. I'm also going to be asking for large non refundable deposit on any sales in future.
@Silver you are right about the solicitors. Mines a proper house moving one (not sure on the title) and she's had me legally sorted since November. She's been great to deal with. Always open and honest. The others are a corporate part of Haarts. Enough said.
They're like that while they're a step ahead of the other... Come the contract signing day ours sprang on us that "someone" had a right of way to drive down our drive! She said hadn't mentioned it previously because she couldn't figure it out. Sign here, it'll probably be ok!
What they said as we never buy in chains or sell in them . Hope they said something helpful I didn't read any of this thread.
Good luck all those in a moving chain. We exchanged today. We also exchanged rather strong words too. I pull no punches with my estate agent and their recommended solicitors. And while I was in a rage and letting rip, my solicitor was (who I'd said "please hold") heard me let rip was screaming WE'VE EXCHANGED down the line so I had to apologise. I the. Got told by Yvonne that she'd wish every person she dealt with was like me......camp, angry, scathing, vicious and funny?? I said. Anyway we have exchanged. Barry will be coming home. @Majorhangover will be back to being a 1 bus family having fostered Barry. I can't wait to get my boys back together.
Well I've just spent 5 Hours clearing my 2 sheds of stuff I might need including loads of crap lol, I filled a high top long wheelbase crafter so I'm glad it was suggested i made a start on the sheds, now there's just good stuff in there and once I get a date I'll take it to work, I'm also sorted for moving now as one of the courier companies we use is doing it for me for a drink so happy days
NO solicitor does any work its all done by the legal secretary, solicitor just signs the work as his/her own.
The solicitor also pockets most of the obscene fees and is responsible for inventing plausible excuses explaining why whatever went wrong, or wasn't done, or wasn't done in time, or wasn't researched, or wasn't explained to you, wasn't actually their fault. So no, they can't possibly reduce the fee.
don't tell anyone...... there's a strong rumour we're moving 6th march....... i'll belive it when i actually do it.
Hmm wouldn't be so sure, the last 'move' I did into a rented house was the worst day of my life - the landlord had double let the place and someone was already living there! Imagine the shock on my face turning up with a van full of stuff having already given the keys to my previous place to the new tenents...
