Get him to come along, and bring a timing light, I'm sure we can get it sorted. I'll load the Bentley manual onto my iPad.
This alone should be reason enough to blackball the bloke - a VERY easy and basic check to make . No disrespect to topbanana but he`s just a talented and enthusiastic amateur , the `mechanic` earns his crust repairing and sorting out a very basic engine so should know his onions or pack it in . Top marks to Banana man for the generous offer of help and encouragement , another engine saved !! Bloody rip - off merchants , makes my blood boil when genuine people put their trust in these clowns ... Rant over .
Yep he got home in the end. Definitely a cooling issue. Bus is going much better, just need to get this sorted for him.
If you could find the pics i would appreciate seeing them The heads i did for mollys dad were autolinea heads They were terribbly cast and took loads of work just to get near a decent level before improving performance The heads of my engine are mexican heads and despite the valves been on the small side there good enough quality
Thanks so much guys, and Glynn your a bit of a hero of mine I cannot thank you enough for helping me out today - genuine top man. SO back to the journey home. As mentioned having done 4-5 miles I could literally feel the engine burning so I pulled over. The oil was actually bubbling out the sump. I removed the air hoses and had to wait for the engine to cool down before it would eventually start again. It was also stalling when idle so I adjusted the idle to eventually a whole turn on both sides. It was a bit of a nightmare as it was stallign at the lights and I had to wait for the engine to cool before I could start it again. Once I got it going I made it from Oxford to Reading without an issue. Cruised at 50 and was able to hold the dipstick without loosing skin. Engine seemed fine. Whether that will be the same at 55-60 remains to be tested. The non starting when hot is a bit of a ball ache and any suggestions on that are welcome. Gylnn thanks for the offer, but Im afraid I cannot make next weekend unfortunately, but I would happily pop up another time if that suits. Thanks once again.
The bus is so much better now, it can't be beyond the wit of man to improve it now, a big leap forward has been gained and there's more to come.
Glynn is a hero of many, it would seem. Nice one TBR!! I love this place. Good luck getting it sorted burnzdog!
