In relation to road tax , there has been quite a few comment on here and on the internet , but i haven't been able to establish if i should take any action now - for example fill a form in and claim exemption etc etc My vehicle was manufactured on 25th Januay 1973, i have just received my tax renewal for through the post so i decided to call the dvla on 0300 790 6802 (as advertised on their webpage) i explained to a lovely welsh lady the reason for my call , i.e advise about the procedure ..... she explained that the dvla has received no information from the government in relation to the matter , and as far as the dvla are concerned there are no changes to the tax exemption dates in 2014 This realy has put the cat amongst the pigeons for me, here am i thinking i only have a few weeks to wait for a tax free vehicle , to be told now by a representative of the dvla that there are to be no changes ????? i am more confused now than before i phoned them does anyone have a definitive answer / guide / web page link or any idea what is going on. perhaps someone else can phone the dvla and get a better/different answer - mon friday 0800 till 1900
i like your answer shielsy , because it would be in my favour . but with the lack of obvious direct information /instructions to the contrary to the information i have just received from the dvla , i tend to lean more towards there being some truth in what she said to me
goverment has moved the exemption up a year , to 74 vehicles , first time in 18 19 years , ring some one else , in dvlni youl find it is , some times people in our offices dont have a clue but when pushed come up with the right answers owen nw
Just another government department full of Marmitee. I've been fined by DVLA for not notifying them of a change of ownership (which i did) I appealed, they rejected the appeal (on what grounds they won't say) I now have no choice but to either pay the fine for something I haven't done wrong, of wait for it to go to court on the vain hope a magistrate will see sense, otherwise I could end up paying a massive fine and costs. I wouldn't trust a word they've said to you
Take a look here:- http://fbhvc.co.uk/about-us/latest-...cellor-gives-historic-vehicle-owners-a-break/
I've been there with exactly the same issue. The Magistrate will most likely side with you, they're highly fed up with DVLA's incompetence. There's no guarantee with litigation but I'd stick it out, it's great when you stick it to 'em.
The DVLA just haven't decided how they are going to deal with the influx of applications. They are probably the most inept of all Government departments.
joker - don't pay , have your day in court , unless the dvla turn up with evidence that you haven't informed them then they will throw it out in court . How can they prove you haven't informed them , anymore than you can prove that you have . Would you pay a fine for shoplifting if you haven't done it ? i appreciate the fact that where ever i look there is much information of the budget of 2013 removing tax for vehicles pre 1974 . my doubting is based not only on the call to the dvla , but i simply cannot find a definitive answer as to what procedure the is in order to simply get a tax disc but not paying for it. Some sites say get a form from manufacturer , others say send forms to dvla , some say just go to post office and apply for the disc as usual cause the logbook is pre 1974 they will give you the tax disc , others say the post office wont be able to do that what i suppose i am saying is there is no definitive information and guidance but lots of suggestions and assumptions .
As I said, its because they haven't yet announced how they are going to administer the change. Once the decision us made there will be info everywhere. I'd expect as a minimum to need your vehicle birth certificate though.
luckily i have a leter from vw stating it was manufactured 25th january 1973 , this was obtained by previous owner , I wonder if the date of registration on the log book would suffice for people that dont have such a letter
Course you will, the change doesn't come in until April. Just tax it and claim back what you don't need.
I got a date added to mine to get emissions exemption on the MOT. You could always try to apply online and see if that recognises it?
where? mine just says date of first registration 29/01/1973 date of first registration in the uk 29/01/1973
