Without wishing to start a war, you need a type-4 for that, it's precisely why I made the change and I had to change vans to one it would ft into as well!
I'll put my bet in at 62mph which seems to be the tipping point for the type-1 engines I've had.

 

I'd say what you've got is ideal for a Bay. Full of air-cooled goodness, not really a ball of fire, but can easily keep up on the motorway. Perfect!

Now you've just got to squeeze that small-block Chevy V8 into Henry. A big blower would look great sticking out of the bonnet

Finally got around to replacing the flooring. Goodbye dull and functional black with the mysterious melted patch, hello blue and white checkerboard, so I now match 80% of all other vans. The tiles had been sitting in a box for a couple of years, a lockdown job that never happened. I'm quite pleased with the result, went down much easier than I thought.

 

You do realise having two classics makes you properly certifiable?

Great to hear Henry is progressing to life back on the road.

 

Quite likely the single carb was throttling it at higher revs making it sound strained, but it probably wasn't.
