Sammy has always been reluctant to start on cold mornings. I've tried a few things, but today, I was looking at Bentley again that says plugs at 0.6 for twin carbs but 0.7 for FI. Now Sammy used to be FI but is currently running twin Weber ICT34s. Anyway I decided to open my plug gaps up to 0.75  and low and behold, first time start and so far no misfire even on a very steep hill. Currently waiting for my chips and tea a Newlands Corner café with all the Sunday bikers....fingers crossed it continues to behave.

Let's hope so. More power means more heat, and you don't know what the cylinder heads are doing while the oil cooler is coming.. Like mine where the oil temperature was not extremely high, but the second sudden rise in cylinder head temperature (also still in expected range) was a melted piston. The first sudden rise was ended by us pulling into a planned service station stop at Membury that's at 750ft ASL, having done several big climbs up on the M4 going east without blowing up.. It went another 20 miles before really spitting all the oil through the hole in the piston..

Been swapping both track rods tonight, fixed one came loose okay and has been swapped for new.

Disaster struck removing the adjustable one, steering knuckle end, started loosening off the nut holding it tight, it loosened 1/2 turn and sheared off

It is well and truly stuck.

Because ~2mm of sheared thread are sticking out, file it flat and make an 8mm plug and try the ball joint separator applying force on the plug. Get some heat on it after its soaked with penetrating oil for a while.

    Any suggestions?

  9. Get some heat on it and whack it with a punch? Or try clapping both sides with big hammers, see if the taper breaks?

I'll give the heat method a try (need to find a dragon first off) and clap it. I do have some punches as well.

    Thanks :hattip:

  11. Should knock out once you've broken the taper. The "stem" of balljoints isn't that thick.

No it is narrow. I think it just needs brute force to break its seal!

Try a different design of joint separator or even try and get a two leg puller or bearing separator onto the stump.. I have a Halfords ball joint splitter where the bolt in the separator winds straight onto the end of the ball joint threaded section, no leverage, just a screw winding down.. unfortunately its cheese metal ..

    Its sorted now Mike cheers.

Made a little top hat kind of insert at work from an M8 shouldered bolt, got my big knuckle bar on it (having left it soaking in penetrating oil overnight). Bang off it came having made me jump :D

  19. Fired him up - started first time, as ever - took him for a blast to Stockbrokerbridge, then up the windy hill to Jack's Bush, back through the Wallops (Middle, to be precise). Stopped to look at the aerobuzzers.
