Still getting parts delivered for this weekends windscreen replacement. ...

New heated screen, BBT windscreen seal, power wiring cable, inner primer sealant for edges of screen, non setting mastic sealant, window aperture edge repair metal pieces, relays, pushbuttons. Need to make the timer circuit too. Lets hope i dont find too much of a disaster.. about £400 parts so far..

Just out of interest I pushed a couple of questionable ignitition condensers to 1000 volts to see what happened. One of them kept breaking down at about 150 volts then healed itself ( kept marked as questionable for future testing) , the other one was OK straight off.
I used a small eBay high voltage generator module .

So it looks like I am going to be hunting down a hidden loose connection..

Nice. Always fancied getting the CB radio set up that has been languishing in my garage for years (since it was popular first time around!)
Does anyone still use it in this country?

  7. Think Barry uses one. He couldn't decide whether to be Rubber Duck or Johnny Cool and ended up as Rubber Johnny.

They are great fun on the road. We fitted them for the drive across to the Wales green laning event in July..

The interesting thing is that it's not illegal to use a handset on the move like it is to use a mobile, but you can still get done for undue care and attention if the law thinks it's appropriate:rolleyes:

Ahh, yes I'd forgotten we had a play with his aerial there:oops:. The handheld we use in Chip has a limited range without the car kit and aerial hookup, but it's really useful if you need to leave the vehicle for any reason like guiding over obstacles etc.

Trouble is with a load of T2’ s you need to change the wording from “ we’ve got a convoy “ to …. “ we had “ :(

  13. Just for clarification, not a euphanism, it actually was my CB aerial we played with at TE.

  15. Great idea for convoys
Ideally you need the mount in direct electrical contact with the body of the bus sam
The bus acts as the ground plane for the aerial
The awning bracket may not be good enough
Also it would be a good idea to temporarily fit an swr meter and adjust the length of the aerial to bring the swr to an acceptable level.
If it’s to high due to a poor ground plane or the aerial being too long or short not only will you get poor performance but you can damage the output stage of the radio leaving you unable to transmit.

I’m looking forward to seeing what other mods and accessories you do/fit to your bus before the trip and really looking forward to the trip pics

  16. yes I have a swr meter already I'm gonna run a small ground tag onto the awning bracket as a supplementary bond too

not much more happening with the bus now.

possibly a rear arb set up, sort cruise control with the subaru ecu and adjust the air intake, cyclonic filter system maybe.

  17. Didn’t realise you’d be able to utilise the cruise control as well on a scooby swap, very fancy!

Superficially it looked like there wasnt much going wrong.. of course..

The repair pieces are wide enough to cross the really thin bit.. Theres only a few bits of the inner panel totally missing at the top..

And the moment I pushed the crack in the windscreen grew up and down to the top and bottom of the screen..
    Three days to go..

Beginning to wish I had bought a complete front panel. .
