Here’s a thought. Apparently the government email highlighting the possibility of fuel shortages was leaked to the BBC. Now to my sceptical mind this mad rush to fill all our tanks with fuel generates an awful lot of revenue very quickly, not that this government is in need of a cash boost being only a few trillion in debt!

Oh and those higher prices and wages what do they generate?

    A- more revenue

  3. And the well intended minimum wage has turned out to be an opportunity for some employers to use it as a maximum wage........

I have no problem people playing the benefits system when you see all the sole trader Ltd Co's dodging tax and NI contributions, whilst paying their partners/kids as ghost employees and buying them new phones/laptops as tax deductible company expenses.

Apparently people who play the benefits system are scroungers, whereas people who play the tax system are savvy..........

Well, one side is taking full stop. The other is NOT taking, just not giving as much as you'd like. There is a difference.
The people I feel sorry for are PAYE types, but then they just have to turn up to get paid, they get holidays, they get pensions, they get paid when there's no work, they aren't judged on their last job, don't get fleeced by their customers... It's all balanced IMO.If you are self employed and not taking advantage of the tax advantages for being responsible for your own income and hopefully employing others too then more fool you.

  18. business no longer there after Covid and no furlough or other schemes so I'm back to the PAYE treadmill, no free laptops and iPads, perhaps that is where I went wrong.

  19. I can recall at the time, press reports of sole trader ltd co's that, having chosen to 'pay' themselves more dividends and less wages to avoid tax, they were agreived to find that the furlough schemes didn't fit that approach...

IR35 is now hoovering up the rest and has now been raised as one of the reasons for the lorry driver shortage?
