Must admit i was thinking along those lines but something newer - i honestly think you need to sit down and decide exactly what van you`re looking for instead of wasting time pulling other peoples vans to pieces and talking yourself out of buying it . Just maybe he was as ignorant as most owners and took it to be repaired , it came back shiny and he`s happy ?? Not quite sure what you`re expecting from a 9 year old resto to be honest - T2`s are rot boxes , fact. Unless you`ve got the skills to sort out any engine and bodywork issues it WILL become yet another money pit . It looks a lovely van but how long will it stay that way ? Look at some thing newer would be my long term advice ...
Stop *******ing about. You have no intention of buying this bus. Just decide if you are going to buy a modern camper or a classic vw. If it's a classic vw you decide on just buy one from the collection that @davidoft posted up ages ago. He has loads of buses that may be top money but are apparently top quality. None of us can afford for you to get it wrong again. If you decide on modern, decide if you want to pay the vw premium or want better value from a non vw.
I always am wary seeing a nice fresh finished van, if you look a bit closer you see more paint on the seals and wiring loom than on the body, when I bought mine I was missing the six inches so definitely no filler, needed more of a sculptor than a bodger.
What's a proper go around the bottom six by a reputable company cost these days? £5000? Asking for a friend
Tell your friend to open an account with Scofields and buy a welder. better still tell them to convert a vw crafter. Virtually no scene tax and you can stand up in it.
"Once bitten..." I can assure you. Classic not modern. Was in touch with him a while back. Sorry it's been such a painful experience for everyone!
Last I'd read I thought you were going modern. If classic work out what you want from it....then buy the best you possibly can (you'll save in the long run). Seriously consider one from the large collection that @davidoft knows of.
And I was forgetting that with your lanky legs you won’t need a ladder for first floor windows anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I looked at the various modern options (started out with a narrow outlook but TLB hive opened that up) and realised that it's not for us. When I've got everything sold I'll know what I have available to spend (minus a maintenance fund). Don't see the harm in looking at stuff in the mean time. Will be easier to spot "the one" when it surfaces.
