While you are buying stuff, have you bought any cam lube yet?

The thing I like about Jake Raby is over the years he's changed his mind about loads of things while constantly asserting both that he's right and that most people are idiots not worth arguing with. I take it all with a pinch of salt, which fool spends £20K on a more or less stock engine?

I don't mind listening to him, especially the strip down / rebuild videos he did as I found them, along with cross referencing to books and other build threads, very useful and that helped a lot with the motor in Gusbus, which is still going strong, its just leaking a bit now, nothing to worry about. The valve clearances need doing now too.

I think the parts he sold under the type4 store brand was and still is expensive, approx. $1200 for a 9590 cam kit

    He can be arrogant :)

  8. ..and now after watching him I find myself saying 'foot pounds' in a southern drawl every time in my head...

  9. I'm all ready now with my new foot pound torque wrench .

After reading the Bentley manual and watching videos I am confident on reassembling the engine.

After taking another look inside one of my cam bearings is knackered so waiting on a replacement set.

If I bought both of these, do you think they'd work, I have an g code engine, as said before with the oval exhaust is there a square adapter? Or should I keep looking

  10. Nope no adapter, some have cut the oval bit off the exchanger at the lug to make it a 'square port' one but that might throw thing out.
And the chambers will most likely be different between each side .. though mine was running a 2 litre head on one side and an 1800 on the other when I took it apart!

  11. Did you have an issue with engine wobble? I know it's best to have a matching pair for engine balancing and other such reasons, that's why I'd buy I was looking at buying both of those heads.

Is it really just a case of cutting the pipe shorter?

They are £100 each, sold separately so you'd want the earlier one of the two. Why would you buy the later non matching one as well?

  13. I stupidly didnt realise they were different, I thought they were listing the engine codes the fitted. If that's the case i think I'll hold off a little longer either for a matching pair or the correct one.

Thank you for saving me yet again

  14. Both look square port to me.. and looks like there was an injury incurred too!

Didn't get much of a chance to try the mismatched engine.. bought the thing, looked smokey and rough, though I'd refresh the heads.. moved on to full rebuild...Like you do once it's apart

  15. Sure someone on here did it once.. just cut off at the face of the lug and levelled a cross the tops of both to make it sit flush... but I'd worry about it not working as then you've written off two exchangers too!

  17. ..actually now I've typed that.. I must have a 2ltr oval port head in a box somewhere as I used the 1800 one and got another of those... I'll have a look tonight and see how it looks.. might tide you over till a rebuild..

  19. Says 79 CJ so getting on for the last ones but they're AMC heads.. tidy enough for £100!
