  1. ahh,

ok, when it comes to it.. i'll flat it, then do a second coat on the bottom half. as that's where the filler is. i'm not arsed about inside as its all going to be covered.

do i need to high build it for a second coat, then flat again. or just a normal primer?

  2. Nice work @carlperkins001 , looks like we're neck and neck!

FWIW I've used high build UPol 2k for everything. Can't fault it. You'll be fine painting this yourself, that's what I keep telling myself anyway!

I have bought a nice gun for the topcoat of 2K, a DeVilbiss FLG5 which is lovely. I also shelled out on an air fed mask and good filtration; gun+mask+filters was about £400, paint was about the same. Cheaper than a pro-job and I'm set up now for any scrapes and blemishes down the line ;)

What mask, filter did you go for?

  4. Mask... http://www.anest-iwata.co.uk/catalogo.asp?Area=1&cat=15 highly recommended, hardly know you have it on - needs a lot of air volume though, I'd say with the spray gun you'll need 10cfm plus.

I already had a water trap in the air line but added a coalescing filter as well as the carbon filter that comes with the mask, this is the one...

You'd be able to sell it all on if you want too, maybe you'd lose £100. I'm keeping mine though.

Excellent thanks just eyeing up my options.
I've got access to a 150L compressor which I currently use for air tools, and my smaller 50L unit which I use for spraying. So I should be able to use the 150L for the mask and paint with the other. Cushty.

  6. Ive got a small compressor with a willson mask, carbon filter which probably needs replacing. A coalescer filter (£100 on ebay) and a water trap. But air doesnt last long.

I have a £50 sealey 1.8 tip suction gun for primer which is ok.

And a devilbiss flg5 for painting, which i agree is quite nice for the money.

  7. And the roof

Looks like it will need another coat as i have missed bits

  9. tis indeed mate, will try and get the front panel and sliding door ready for primer this weekend.

then engine bay, fettling, then paint! got the 2nd week of August off to work on it too :)

  10. The sliding door is now ready for primer :)

Then carried on with the front panel, most of it is done

This corner was a bit bashed about, so after some persuasion with a hammer its straight-er
    Needs a bit more filler

  11. Waiting for a few bits before i can primer it, so i spun it round and started sanding down in the engine bay.

    This is before i started.

  13. Cheers mate, yeah still plugging on slowly lol.

So i was looking at the bus when i had it in the sun, and through the primer you can see some outlines of filler. So i think a few bits will need a second coat of primer. Does anyone know if i need to flat the first coat and then do another layer of high build then flat again?

Or just go straight on with another coat?

  14. Yes flat that coat with guide coat and then reprime or fill then prime but yes always flat between coats un less your spraying wet on wet ;)

  15. Nice one, i'll be guide coating and flatting the whole bottom half of the bus next time. Then its re-prime and then look to paint the inside. I have already flatter the majority of the inside, just around the windows. The rest will not be seen anyway lol.

  16. So today i guide coated the driver side and back of the bus, then started flatting it off with 600 grit paper

I may have over cooked it on the sanding, but its very smooth

A post.. Youd never know therrs a join in there

Just need to do the big middle bit tomorrow.

I'm goin to need another coat of primer on the bottom, anyone know if i can just use normal primer? Or do i need high build then flat it again?
