Promising then! Thanks good to hear.. moves me away from the strip it down and start again end of the spectrum over towards might be ok! See how she goes with a bit more battery oomph tomorrow don't think I'll get enough fuel in those carbs before the battery dies again tho.. might give them a hand.. Ah... just re read that ... you were saying turn it with just your hands ... not turn it with your hands ..just!... I can turn it by hand just a bit of an effort at every half a turn of fly wheel.. so each TDC! Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
It sounds ok. Would be graunching noises or binding if something was amiss, I'd think. Just need to improve your starting arrangements...
I think stiff but doable was where I was at.. vicious those flywheels on your hand tho... Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
An engine slipped once, dropped only 1/2" and the flywheel landed on my finger. I could measure the scars and tell you how far apart the teeth are... I just have, 5.5mm.
Still no joy on starting.. painfully slow turnover... But hey the auto chokes work! Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Second starter a deadun! .. running jump leads straight from the Quashqai .... Getting a spark at the plug.. fuel smell from exhaust though pouring a bit down the carb throats probably adds to that... Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Jump leads are not always ideal. Try taking battery out of car or try new battery. If your a member of Costco they are happy to return anything so you could try buying one then returning it when your finished..
Was a new Bosch s4 004 60ah jobbie I drained first... running two sets of jump leads as they're getting a bit hot.. as is the starter!... giving it all a rest till Wednesday night to get some more ideas that don't involve stripping it back to see what's slowing it down... pretty sure it's the pistons being a bit rough on new rings....unless the assembly oil has set! Had a quick poke around before it got dark... I can hear carbs squirting when you pull linkage so guess carbs are getting fuel in.. coil had 3.2ohms accross primary winding 9750ohms across primary to secondary so coil looks ok get a spark out of centre HT to body work and a spark at a plug... but .... Its an electronic ignition unit...I can only get a spark when the flywheel is going clockwise looking at it. So engine going backwards. ?? How do I get a spark going the right way?
How have you timed it? Try turning the dizzy each way whilst cranking over, have a strobe already connected to adjust straight away if it fires up!
Just trying static at mo turning dizzy while timing mark set to 7.5btdc and looking out for a spark.. not really turning enough to set with a strobe on starter!... But spark only seems to appear when rotor passes the sensor the "wrong" direction....might put points back on for now...and spray lighter fluid down the carbs Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Jump leads are not great even if good quality ones, yours look a bit feeble to be honest . Can you get battery off car ?
Will try and improve some more.. was running two sets of jump leads just in case!.. might go steal loom off van or get some meter tails from CEF... Still don't know why electronic ignition only sparks going backwards. . Might need to test that again Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Well .. using proper earth leads and the wiring helped... but still no go... think I've killed the starter now too... .. new messages to battery probably not too happy about being drained this often either... Can see petrol squirting in. Can see a spark on plugs... timing looks ok at 8 btdc static as a starting point.. still no vroom. ..looking pretty will only get it so much time before I'm getting the birch branches out to thrash it.... Still no go tho... but at least I think it's the new battery I goosed not the starter.... except the shut off solenoid terminal on the carb just snapped off.... not going well.. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
