Right, I'm not interested if you wanna spout the "law" ya de ya de ya...... i know the risk....but for those peeps who (like me) are planning to camp over easter but as yet don't have the van taxed (in my case it's sorn) would you risk blagging the tax and taxing from 1st April but using the van at the end of March? realistically the only "illegal" day i'd drive it would be the 29th (i can tax it on the 28th for April onwards) Good friday is 29th March so post office will be shut, then we have 30 sat 31 sun when i would be static off road and April 1st i'd be legal to drive home....... it's tempting as i honestly don't need to use the van until the 29th and i'm annoyed i'd lose a month for what is in effect 1 days use.... i blame the god botherers - why is easter so early this year anyway?

to be fair this was my thinking initially, but as paradox says i'm well aware of the law and i don't really want to risk it..... although the day i want to drive it "illegally" is a bank holiday i think i'd have to be pretty unlucky to get A.N.P.R'd - that said i guess if it got stolen or involved in an accident on the 29th i'd loose all from the insurance.....

  11. years ago i would have risked it but here is what happened to my brother .....

he was driving down the a23 and there was a police car in the lay-by stopping every 5-6 vehicles.
he was one of the ones that got stopped and his tax disc was 3 days out of date - his own fault for being a lazy sod.

anyway - they clamed his car there and then and he had to use public transport to get to a post office to get a disc, then pay a declamping fine once he got the disc.
and i think he also had another fine for not having a valid disc too.

in total it cost him something like £400 ... the disc would have been £80

mmmmmmmm, well sod it then if i'm gonna tax it for the 29th i'll do it today and go for a drive. Thanks sensible people...... iwish we still lived in the days of a beer mat in the window.....

  15. Unfortunately long gone are the days of getting a slapped wrist off a copper... like Para says, they'll have the van off you... you can get it back, but it's like £150 plus recovery costs...

Hardly worth risking it dude!! And, as you've asked about it, you can guarantee you'll get caught if you don't tax it!! Proper Murphys law ;)

yeah i know.... it's just a right git that the easter break is just too soon.... no worries i'm off to the post office then.

  17. tax it mate, better spending the money than the evil powers that be turning up to your house and taking the van off you to crush it... prevention is better than cure n all that jazz.

atleast then you wont be stressing over it and looking over your shoulder the whole time.

    My 2p

    B :D

  18. so how do you drive to the mot station with no TAX disc ? (no tax because no mot )

  19. It's legal to drive to a pre-booked MOT when the vehicle isn't taxed... but it has to be insured!! :)

  20. what even if its like 30 miles away .... ( i use a guy near to where i work)
