Would you take your van abroad yes or no ?

  1. Theres nothing i enjoy more than a euro road trip :D
I go to alot of european shows each year including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland.
This year my b.f and i drove to Norway via Denmark and Sweden for the SCC show. We had a brilliant time, stayed in lots of nice and reasonably priced campsites along the way. (None of which we had pre booked into, as we prefer just to turn up and see if we like the look first)!
We visited some interesting museums and lego land on the way, and met up with some old friends and made some new ones.
I love being on the road, for me its pure escapism.... bring on next years trips!
I would recommend to anyone tho that is thinking of going abroad in their van to get it serviced beforehand.
Get Euro breakdown cover. I use and recommend Heritage/Norton.
Carry as many spares as you can, as even tho my van was serviced it still had a few minor break downs (threw a spark plug out in Sweden)!
It helps if you have a bit of a clue how to fix minor problems (luckily i had my on board mechanic aka my b.f with me) ;) But at least if you have the spares with you then at least someone else may know how to fit them!
Get out there and see the world (Europe)! You won't regret it!

  2. No ,England looks a scarey place now..... ;D

The thing is with France it costs for the petrol ,but if you like adventure you will save on costly campsites by parking in the wilderness... and of course we have a sun.... >:D

  4. Doing Europe is top of the list of reasons why my bus is currently having a scooby fitted. :)

Compared to the UK, I don’t find petrol more expensive (and diesel is much cheaper) in France. Like the UK, prices on motorways are higher but if you are touring around in a campervan you’ll miss the real France using motorways. http://www.drive-alive.co.uk/fuel_prices_europe.html

My first trip after a four year rebuild was to drive from our old home near Aberdeen to our new home close to Lyon. We used the Hull to Rotterdam ferry but over the years we’ve tried most of the channel crossings. I prefer the overnight ferries, time to relax, have dinner, a good night’s sleep and a morning start for an easy first day driving. Least favourite crossing is the tunnel.

  7. I know its in Norway lol I meant we drove through Denmark and Sweden to get there ;)
We saw the Slackers crew there but where a bit shy :-[
We loved the show, spent most of the time watching the racing :)

  8. Planning the south of france for christmas so YES :)

  11. We had a lovely trip to France in the car with a tent a few years back. Now we've got a van, we're hoping to venture across the water next year. Currently researching ferry prices, and have time to learn a bit more French in case we break down! Next is to have a rough idea of where we're going to go (taking in visits to a friend, and maybe taking advantage of Lost-en-France's previous camping offer!).

Several people seem to be thinking of going to France next year - maybe we should have a convoy!! ;)

The best advice you can have when taking your bus to France, is to arrive and head south. The weather in the north is very similar to here so best avoided.

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

Been to France many times and sometimes we drove Ruby back ;D

We are now in a position to buy a place somewhere in the middle ish part so we have a base to go further and deeper into the euroland.

As said above stick to the non-toll roads and see france not motorway.

  15. What spares do people tend to carry, I am sure they must be a list of common tools and spares i.e fan belt, plugs, ht leads etc...

Can we get a list or is there one already on here??
