  1. Ooooo...... Exciting!!! Just been over to Scotty's this evening and he's started work, looks a bit gruesome but all the rust is cut out now and what remains is being prepared for welding the new panel work in.[IMG]
A nice pile of rusty metal!

  2. Dropped off another shed load of bits (mostly engine tinware etc) to the shot blasters this afternoon, managed to drop into Scotty's again on the way and he's making great progress...

    Here's a couple more pics

  5. A quiet weekend on the van, but a few more developments - our replacement interior trim has arrived from Dolly Day Dream and it's lovely!

  6. Had a good day at Stonor Park VW show, sold a few bits and picked up a few useful bargains. On my travels round the various trade stands I discovered Jeffrey von Duin from BusOK.nl - he has a full range of replacement Westy furniture in the correct colour / pattern - so if you need any panels have a look at his web site, as long as you can read Dutch!!
Also bumped into Scotty who was out hunting for bits and he tells me he's nearly done!!! So more pics tomorrow all being well...Bodyshop next!!!
Hopefully going to pick up a massive load of sandblasted bits for the engine too - Inset day at School so I'll have the kids with me all day... That'll be fun.
This week I want to finish the engine and have it ready to fit for when Winnie gets back from the bodyshop - time is ticking!! :)

  7. Couldn't get over today, but will tomorrow morning - welding is finished and the bodyshop are ready to start work on Wednesday. Paint shouldn't take too long as Winnie is really straight - hoping to have her back by the 15th, which leaves me 3 weeks to Camperjam... :(

  8. Here's a few pics of the nearly finished welding. Scotty has done a super job, and I'm very pleased.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  9. So, have been a little busy at work, so have not been very active on Winnie, but she is progressing well in the hands of others. I haven't been able to get over to the bodyshop, so no pics as yet, but there will be soon!
Tomorrow I'll be busy on the engine, and I have a nice big pile of sand blasted bits to pick up tomorrow pm.. :)

  10. A pile of shot blasted engine bits and bobs....[IMG]

I have had the heat exchangers from Winnie's original engine blasted as they are in great condition. Next step is a paint all these bits in VHT wrinkle paint except for the fan housing. You probably can't see that very well but instead of sand blasting I had it Soda blasted. This gives a lovely natural finish to alloy/magnesium and will look great in the engine bay.

  11. Anyone know the colour code for the grey engine firewall? Ordered some paint to a code fir grey i found in the bus reference book earlier this week and it look's yellow..... Not grey?

  12. Cant help with the fire wall but (and you probably were going to anyway) put some varnish on the fan houseing to stop it oxidising and going back to naff very quickly

  13. Agreed, but Satin, not gloss!
Have been perusing this site, and I think this looks amazing - does anyone know where I can get some of these cool stripes?

  14. BaG hEaD had some made up for his and Birdy used tester pots for his :D

  15. Years ago I restored a 2CV Beachcomber and these had quite distinctive swirly patterns on the side - a local sign maker made up replacements for me then, so I'm guessing a good sign maker could sort me out..... Note made, will enquire on Monday...
It would look quite cool lowered/narrowed with polished Fuchs too....... Hmmm ;)

  16. UP is the new down though! ;)

What Majorhangover said and it is true. Well sort of. l bought 1/2 litre pots of dulux exterior gloss. Took a lifetime to dry. Baggy had his made. Any vinyl sign writing company will be able to do something like that for you.

  18. I think that's the way to go... And, no, I won't be lowering Winnie, it really ruins the ride!
