fair play on going the whole hog, don't take this wrong though but price of van plus parts plus resto etc will end up costing as much as a solid base van you must be a glutton for punishment! if you don't mind telling me what price to get your van as is imported? mine cost 7k registered and mot'd 'cos i did the sourcing/import myself, prob owes me 10k as is less the trinkets lol

  2. Grazzer, Scotty did all my welding, he is brilliant. Where abouts in Oxford are you?

  3. Thats good! just wondered because you had it up on wood on the cross beams, I tried the jacking points when I first got the van and they turned to dust

  4. Sounds like a good resto, looking forward to seeing this one through.

  5. Had a good day/evening on Winnie, stripped out the brakes, got the bent steering rods off and all my new brakes / suspension / steering bits arrived today thanks to GSF in Oxford (cheers Noel).
It's great to see this old girl is all original and not been messed about with by hapless bodgers with no clue. Still has the original rear wheel cylinders (even the little rubber bleed nipple caps are still there with their VW part numbers!!), the calipers are moving freely and the discs are fine. So tomorrow Winnie gets four new Boge shocks, new rear wheel cylinders , new brake shoes and new front pads, not to mention new steering arms. Unbelievably the suspension ball joints are in fine fettle and the front wheel bearings have been stripped, cleaned,re packed with grease.... Lovely and smooth now!
Also had a good look at the wiring loom, and that I think will be fine! It's all good!!

  6. Not much to report today, a few more bits arrived and a few standing around with cups of coffee and lists. Hopefully my BIG box of goodies from Scofields will arrive tomorrow - there's loads to do.... Got to finish the brakes, strip out lights, windows and doors ready for Thursdays visit to the shot blasters. Got an extra member of staff tomorrow, so I can press on without being disturbed ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21368559796.442131.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21368559824.456645.jpg

  7. We are cracking on, today I have finished the brakes and suspension overhaul, fitted 4 new tyres (so we can move it around) and stripped out all four windows and most of the chrome - it's all going well. Jobs to do will be to bleed the brakes tomorrow morning, remove the Jealousy Windows, and then she's off to Ecojet Blast Cleaning for shot blasting, and then to Scotty's Van Centre to sort out that rather unpleasant rot in the engine bay...I can have a rest for a bit :)

  8. Question for all you Champers owners out there.... What colour should the engine bay be, Winnie is so burnt out that I can't tell if she should be white or brown - any ideas?

  9. Thats coming on great Grazzer
Looks really straight as well, glad your keeping it brown and keeping the interior
Very jealous of those doors ,need a pair of each myself :(

  11. There was a discussion a couple of months back on the very subject. The general consensus was that the engine bay should be brown.

if you do a forum search for poo bus log cabin you'll find my thread (neglected) around late december we discussed paint in engine bay and there's loads of pic's - still unsure on why mine is white i even had the thinners out to clean it up to see if it had been sprayed but it looks like it's never been brown although behind firewall maybe? anyway have a look.

  14. I think you are right, thinking about it. I reckon at the factory they take a white shell and then literally paint the bottom half brown, otherwise it would look a bit odd white under the wheel arches? Also on closer inspection of the pics I took last night the one area that isn't singed is brown - so that's the answer. Excellent [IMG]

  17. That doesn't look too shocking Grazzer, Bit of a shame about the chassis no. though

  18. I know, Scotty said the same thing, but I still have one in the windscreen and the silver sticker inside the front door, so no worries there.

  19. Don't look to bad , I personally would paint the bay brown :) will look good .
You going to put the chassis number back at the back then by mask ring the numbers up on a plate and welding it in.
