Window Thermo Mats

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Owen Snell, Mar 16, 2014.

  1. Worth bothering with? We've got lined curtains, but only camped in the summer last year. Will be out from April this year when it's colder at night, so are these things worth having?

  2. I reckon so, van felt warmer but I did have a pop top insulating cover as well. That was last October.

Absolutely, reverse them for repelling the hot, hot sun. Good privacy, and they at least make you feel better in sub-zero, even if they don't actually do anything :)

  4. Interior JK type or front screen / cab window exterior type? Recommendations for poptop too please.

we have the set for all the windows, the interior padded foil faced things. TBH if it's cold the you tend to drop the pop anyway. They work for us, if not everybody & they go everywhere

  7. Deffo worth it. That first bad winter we had, 2009 I think, we spent new year in the Lakes. Van still warm enough in the morning after it'd been -11. Didnt have the poptop up though. Great for hot summer mornings too.

  8. it's the one thing I'd get before any other insulation, tbh....if only to reduce condensation

  10. I've got a set of JK mats, and I'd say they're worth it. They also provide some sound insulation too, as well as keeping warm in at night, and heat out when its too hot.

I think your condensation problem is because with that bubble wrap insulation, you're sealing in the canvas when it would normally be allowed to breathe. Not sure what the solution would be though.

We use them here, even though winter isn't as cold as I'd like.
Brilliant in summer if we can't get parked under a tree to keep the sun off.

  13. No fixings on the front. The bungees keep it under tension.

  14. Hang on. This is news to me. So is it silver facing in for cold nights and out for sunny days? Does it make much of a difference?

  15. Yes because the shiny side in reflects the heat back in

  17. Ive never swapped em round. Cant see what difference it would make other than buggering the suckers up and having to change them.

  18. So you have to take the suckers off and put them back on from the other side?
