Why you need to check your breather hoses

  1. Where are you located bertie dude?

Appologies dude but ill reply tmw as im off to bed now

  2. 7mm ID fuel hose I believe.

  3. Yep, middle picture of tank and pipe work. Everything numbered 24 is hose. I did not have time to get the panel off mine yesterday and it is a type 1 so will need an engine drop to replace, but I WILL BE DOING IT. Having seen what was lurking behind the spare wheel, the ones behind the back panel have to be degraded.

  4. Another thing to check is the fuel pipes:-
This joint is where my fuel pipe reducer is, look how much a jubilee clip damages the hose:-

This pipe has been on the van 18 mths, shocking!:-

The pipe on the far right is the one hidden up in the vent, it teared off as soon as I pulled it so it was long over due for replacement:-

  6. If your unsure about your breather pipes condition only fill the tank half full. :0

  7. Can anyone recommend any companies to buy the replacement tank pipes from too?

In the photo which pipes should be replaced if the engine is out?

  8. All good advice, I checked and replaced all mine when the engine was out. Glad I did as this is what I found behind the spare wheel well:

Rotten! Replaced it and used fuel line clamps just to be on the safe side :)

  9. Useful thread if a little scary, its good for new owners to understand these issues in my opinion...

  11. Sorry back to the T piece,I dont have an air filter so should i just block it?

No you dont want to block it; its a breather system. blocking it will stop it breathing! What do you mean you have no filter?
You must have either the old paper filter type (big square black box) or the earlier oil filled type (round black smaller box) or 1 or 2 pancake type filters?

  13. I don't have a T piece? It was never there..... Since I have had the van anyway

the t piece is usually on the "roof" of the engine bay off centre to the right as you look in, if you don't have one then cut the pipe and get one in piped into your air intake somewhere, it's moreso a expansion as well as a breather the pipes originate on the top of the tank and go up to the air intake vents where 2 condensing tubes sit - it is really only essensial on warm days with a brim full tank, if anyone has issues with pipes on the fill or expansion side of the van then as long as you don't fill it up it isn't the end of the world and immediately dangerous the critical ones are from the output of the tank to the fuel pump and onwards as these will at some point be under pressure.

  15. [IMG]Hi Ricky
Found this old pic to show what's on mine. No T piece. Where would the T piece go to?
I've replaced the bits I could see when I changed the cardboardy bit over to metal version on the engine bay ceiling.... But obviously I didn't know about the other areas then ( learnt a lot since then) as I could have changed everything when the engine was out of the van ..... ill advised.... you live and learn, ignorance is bliss- but maybe a little dangerous in this circumstance .

the t piece goes into the air filter - mine originally went into the carbon filter (california spec') but i binned all that and fitted it directly into the airbox.

  17. Seems to be hanging low as well, or have you pulled it down for the pic, I would also clip it up out of harms way...

  18. Ahh quite a distance from me indeed dude
