Why you need to check your breather hoses

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lofty, Mar 18, 2013.

  1. After reading the posts on here 3 years ago, I got paranoid about fuel leaks. My work involves electrical equipment in flammable atmospheres so I know petrol vapour doesn't take much to ignite. To be honest, the replacements are one of the more simpler jobs on a Bay, its just getting to them that's hard, Like a numpty, I have just got the engine back in and forgot to replace the breather connection up behind the spare wheel, this post has reminded me I need to do that...

  2. People spend big money on fire suppression equipment in the hope it will stop a fire
Whilst ignoring the causes that create fire in the first place its silly

My bus will run a fire supression system but thats just me going belt and braces approach as theres a possible chance my bus will end up upside down in the middle of no where with just me the dogs and the ferrets in it

Save your firetec money and sort the possible causes of fire first

dog who is a retained firefighter will give you his input im sure

  3. Everyone who has ever come to my house has had a rotten fuel pipe in that place just ask
nicko_1982 his was falling to pieces

  4. Chris put the pics up you have
I know you have shown some shocking pics before and as a man who lost a bus to fire you understand what im trying to tell people

Its not woth losing your bus let alone putting your familys life at risk for a few bits of expensive rubber and the price of a competant mechanicic for a few hours at most

I have to say at this point i have no mechanics qualifications at all
My trade is an aircraft tech however i have spent many years in the dub scene and im aware of whats right and whats dangerous

I was going to look over his van for him and show him how to do a service. We arranged a date but he never turned up. Won't be offering again!

I'm Not sure that copying every video of a burning van from YouTube is the fairest way of drumming up business to be honest. It comes across to me as a bit "scare mongering".
    I know it's important but .....

  8. I see your point and accept it

However for those that have lost a bus due to fire its a horrible experiance
Im not one i would like to add but i have lost a project ford to a small fire in the engine bay(oil soaked soundproofing ) and the insurance company wrote it off with no reclaim rights

I hope it doesent come accross as me trying to drum up work as i did offer to do it for beer or smoke at a show if im there
I do understand thats still earning even if its working for a smoke or a box of drink

However you have never met me and i have never met you dude although i think we would get on untill the early hours

If someone asked me to look at there bus at a show and it wasent safe to drive home then i would try my hardest to make it safe to drive home
Ive done it often much to the dismay of my wife who accepts this and tags along to please me im sure

However i need money to live in the modern world as most people do so im happy to make peoples holidays safe and sound in return for providing me a tide over

I wasn't having a go mate and theres nothing wrong with trying to drum up a bit of work. I don't think the scary videos are necessary though. Either people will take you up on it or they wont. A few videos of bus fires (that could have had any number of causes) shoulnt make a difference.

As an aside I'm sure we'd get on great!

  10. sorry ,
just came in on the end of this thread,......... has anyone got a pic/diagram of the parts that need to be checked... and are they the same on all year models and engines ?
    . eg . same amount of joints/elbows for a 2ltr as a 1600 engine?
    cheers

  14. Im actually looking forward to the point we share a drink round the campfire

If you had asked me about it a year or two ago i would have avoided you:eek:

Were all in a constant state of flux in our life and the thing i like about the dub scene as it was is the acceptance and tolerance even if you didnt agree with the other party

You may have been an arsey bloke in the past but i was a overly hippy dude in the past

If im out of order give me a min to ******* before you tell me as im realy in need of relief

Me? Oh, er... No, er yeah. I dunno. Didn't come over like that to me, but I know you. :)
Offering to do things for a smoke? Hmmm... apart from the fact that's illegal, I actually know you'd do it for a cup of tea and for the love of it and at a show that's more appropriate than charging? I charge people all day long, but I wouldn't in civvy life - a camp site, a show... I do do this for the love of it as well as scraping by.
