Those examples are extreme, some earlier ones werent. To me those examples wouldn't be good. For someone who's bus is a work horse, quite possibly it would, dependent on what they agreed with whoever is doing the work.
A list of things to look out for may be useful. I don't agree with saying what is and isn't "acceptable": its a strong word and is totally subjective.

  2. But a tidy up on a workhorse is not a restoration
Things like that to me just smack of lazyness and lack of pride in the persons work

Ok maybe my wording wasent the best but im not as good as most when it comes to wording what im trying to get accross

Again it goes back to budget.
If you take a van in for resto and make it clear you have an endless budget, then clearly filled seams would not be good. If you make it clear you've only got a few £k to spend, and to do the best they can it'd be a different story.

  6. agre with yer man above but i do have to say that even a lot of "non-resto" jobs done by profesionals in the trade for simple jobs for mot etc are really poor. Fallen victim to some of those when all i was interestd in was getting a ticket that saw me through for another year. Its unprofesional and lazy and you still pay good money. Ive been to a couple of places to have "repairs" done over the years who have said that they have recenty restored "one of these" the repair work they did for me wasnt fantastic so to think theyve done a full resto for some poor bugger is depressing!

  7. If i took a bus in for work and said i only had a few grand do the best you can i wouldent call it a resto id call it a tidy up
I agree its hard to get a definitive what is a resto and what is acceptable without a budget amount

So somethings like the seams being filled in is a grey area id agree then
So lets have a list of whats not acceptable then even at the low end of a budget?

Call it what you want. Resto / tidy up whatever.
The fact remains that if the person paying the bill is happy they've got what they paid for, who are you to tell them its not acceptable?
Right, off to the pub for 3 games of rugby!

Some fair points made and it ultimately comes down to if you're paying good money you should be expecting a decent job which people here are trying to highlight what isnt acceptable, if you're at home having a go,fair play, owning a bus is meant to be fun right, people arent looking down on you, but sometimes some friendly advice is given here if things arent up to a fair standard but could easily be if the owner could tune their welder in or approach the repair differently :)

Abandoned mine this morning tho, a quick phonecall and a cheap flight & Im off for a week to Spain on a busman's holiday and Paddy's day bender, the downside is I've a mates camper to put back together as its just been painted. I've just boarded and ready go!

  14. you have to accept para, we do not all like driving around in pristine buses ,i take a bus in and get it sprayed for a grand I can imagine what quality it will be ,I take one in for 5 grand and my expectations will increase greatly.....

we all have different expectations , I cringe at some of the welding displayed in some resto`s also dodgy acro prop rear axle repairs ,that guy wants shooting...

Driving around in a bus that has cost you pounds is much less stress free than driving a expensive counterpart...imo
