Hmm I’ll take a look next time I’m out there. Didn’t need a puller to remove it but could well be distorted.

  2. Worth checking with a straight edge. Never seen an alt pulley fall apart before.

Noticed my nearside rocker cover leaking oil just now. Oh well... I decided not to change it when I adjusted the valves because it didnt leak before I took it off while the offside one had a little leak ..

Hopefully sealed up the last bit of the front that was leaking. The windscreen seems to be sealing nicely now but water was still getting through the indicator housings. The new seals don’t seal (guessing they’re not thick enough?) so I’ve ran a nice thick bead of silicon sealant around them both. That should do the job!

  9. As a treat after doing sterling service as a removals and trips-to-the dump van, fitted some trim to my long-suffering bumpers. Beggars to get on until you get the knack, but worth it.

  15. I worked on the bus for the first time in a few months today. Last time, I fitted a new starter in a bid to solve a mystery issue where every now and then, nothing would happen when I turned the key. It didn't work. In fact it was worse. The starter pinion has been sticking 1 out of 3 times lately and it was driving me mad. Having already replaced the battery and trying a hot start relay, I figured the only thing left to try was the pinion bush. I swapped that out today, and so far, fingers crossed, it seems to have sorted it.

    I
Although the bottom pulley looks a bit wonky maybe, thats not going to be the whole story.
The fan belt looks like its running fairly true.
It may have started with vibration - was the previous alternator and fan shroud whacked when the engine dropped off a jack as it was being fitted or removed? it may be the cause went away when the alternator was changed, but the pulley was already cracking.

Its amazing how much vibration alternator bearings and shaft problems can create, my bus is a lot quieter inside without the vibration from the old alternator, the bearings on that had been replaced then killed by vibration from the loose woodruff key which shook the nut loose off the end of the shaft so then the fan belt was forever slapping about at low speed , and turning to dust in 500 miles.. But as a generator of electricity it was still better than the "new" one.

I’ve got a new pulley fitted now. Have just done 200 miles to my folks and are part way home. I’ll check it next week for signs of cracking. I guess time will tell.
