  9. Cursed it as it struggled up a hill with a car right up my aris and then promptly cut out on a bad bend.....other car was not amused.....
Got it started and limped into a little village where it told me to sod off that's as far as we are going @###@@%!.
Quick check very little fuel in the filter...
It took my wife an hour to bring me a fuel can so I could go get some petrol. That's the first time I have run out of petrol and I can only think driving it in and out of the garage uses loads more than I expected...

  10. At least its an easy fix. Hope any tank crud was caught by a fuel filter.

  11. Fitted a fuel cut off valve near the tank & found crack in rubber hose at tank outlet.
Replaced with better quality hose. One to watch out for. ;)

Checked the oil. Since the motorway commute to work is now totally 50mph roadworks, havent used much oil and fuel economy is up 5%.. to 21mpg...

Still getting used to not breaking down or random faults.. 11 months since blowing up the engine.. new engine and a non wobbly alternator and vibration is a lot less.

Drove it past (1)25000 miles on the odometer. Had lunch in it at work.

Went to adjust the alternator belt as I’d noticed it was really slack and making a bit of a racket on the way to work this week.

    Found this instead:

It’d cracked all the way round! Luckily I had a spare in my box which I’ve put on now. Anyone recommend a pulley which is going to last?

  14. Got bored of playing find the dodgy wiring/connection/earth path on replacement rear indicator housing.

Always at MOT time indicator speed changed when braking...

So ripped out old bulb holders and glued in some proper ones...

Seems to have done the trick![IMG][IMG]

    Changed the oil.

    Adjusted the tappets.

Changed secondary main carburettor jet from 140 to 130.. bumper getting a bit sooty, AFR around 11:1 foot hard on pedal at 65.

    Made new carburettor top gasket.

Recalibrated MAP sensor using a nice new compound +/- 1 bar gauge.. which also does for fuel pressure tests.
    400mb=0.5 volts, 1000mb=4.5 volts
    Saw 600mb at idle

Thats metal fatigue. So one or more of the following....
    • it was bent so the belt flapped it
    • your alternator shaft isnt straight,
    • the Woodruff key is floppy .
    • If you did it up with fewer than 7 washers in the stack it could vibrate.
    • The bottom pulley is bent.

They dont do that by themselves.

I woulf recommend the very generic £8 --£10 eBay pulleys in the same style.
But fix what is really wrong. I got through about 4 pulleys total and a fan belt every 500 miles .. like destroyed getting to Techenders from Southampton and back.
Then I changed alternator and pulley just after Dubfreeze and about 5000 miles later it is still on the same fan belt and washer stack arrangement.

The real problem with the old alternator was the Woodruff key slot in the shaft had worn wider and one of the bearings had been destroyed with vibration..

Cheers mate. I’ll take a look. It’s a new alternator as my last one wasn’t charging so hoping not a wonky alternator.

Could have been the old alternator that was wonky, or in your happiness at having a new alternator you forgot something, like doing up the strap..
