Hope this sheds some light on it...
One at top of the pressing and one on the bottom as shewn in the piccy.

  2. Great. Had a good look round, expecting to find something (crazy to have sealed pressing like that) but nowt. I’ll take another look.

If they are plastic covered semi rigid panels and you are going to junk them it might be worth trying to carefully lever off the junction boxes (e.g. pallete knife or similar blade) from the top of the panels and see if you can find corrosion on the positive tinsel strip coming out of the panel. You can then excavate the top plastic covering and find clean metal, solder new wire on and glob over with Sikaflex. You may find it starts working again. Also check the wires arent broken - stab the insulation with a pin near the panel and use an ohm meter. Seal over the hole with sikaflex or self amalgamating tape..

The bottom hole is probably full of rust or helpfully painted over and blocked ..which is why the beam end has rotted from the inside out..

Thanks Mike, the panels are monocrystalline, Semi Flexible, aluminium backed, PET covered. I’m getting over 20 volts open circuit and if I could get the panels aimed directly at the sun they’d probably reach almost the spec 21.6v - doesn’t this mean that there can’t be a broken wire? Unfortunately, the short circuit current is less than 1amp when it should be over 6amp so obviously there is something wrong.

A moderate resistance connection of a few ohms e.g. corrosion could do this.. worth checking before total wrecking. Look for the tinsel strips between the cells being dull grey rather than silver near the junction box.
To be more precise about 10 to 20 ohms in series with the panel could reduce the short circuit current to 1 amp.
But so can a single cracked cell....

  14. Right, found them  Life's an education. They're well clagged up. Will clean them up tomorrow and get me Dynax wand down them. Save me drilling a hole, which I was going to do.

After the weld repairs to my seat springs failed the first time I put my fat butt on them,
I’ve been looking for a better fix.

I found another damaged seat base that also had some broken springs but had the ones I needed.

Stripped both seat bases down and made one good one out of the two.

What’s left is on the left and my nicely sprung seat base is on the right.

Seems funny sitting up straight. The seat used to sag quite markedly to the right. It doesn’t make any horrible graunching noises when I sit on it any more either.

  16. Is that a large Yorkshire Pudding in your seat? Aunt Bessies?

I’ve eaten a few Aunt Bessie’s in my time so they are probably a contributory factor to the welds failing ;)

  18. Might be worth crimping the springs. Sure upholsterers have something that's suitable.

  20. Cleared him out of all soft stuff, curtains ready to be washed and ironed to be put away and wondering what adventures next year will bring.
Drying him off before putting his cover back on and found a long scratch down the side. It wasn’t there on Friday :(

This is how far away from the wall I park (which is probably making that side rust). I can’t even get down there even if I breathe in!

On the plus side, I did find an unopened packet on peanut m&m’s in the bus. But only a small one :( :(
