  1. Yep was a deluxe thing.

  2. Started split charge wiring take 2. Used the cheapo hydraulic crimper that @Bigherb (?) recommended for ground lead and other thick stuff. Made in a Chinese shed, but works pretty well for £25...

Also grovelled underneath to check front beam before I slap some epoxy mastic on it. Thankfully, was in quite good shape under the surface rust. Better do it before the weather gets cold. The last session about 18 months ago nearly killed me...

  3. This weekend I pulled the front roof lining out and recovered it with MARTRIM vinyl that I got at tatton park.

A couple of records this weekend.

    1. I started and finished a job the same weekend!!
    2. I only bought the fabric in August so purchase to fitment time was very quick comparibly for my usual time!!( 3 years for mudflaps etc etc)

  5. Well, I investigated my floppy fan belt today and look what I found.
A bit of background; after 2weeks on the Isle of Wight, and another week driving it to work, I drove it down to the in laws where I'm storing it at the moment. It sounded odd as I got off the dual carriageway and when I got there, I found the strap had come off the generator, and the fan belt was very floppy. The outer pulley was also off centre and the engine was really hot! I left it for a few weeks, but had a look today.
The pulley has pretty much eaten itself, it has spun the shims so that the pinion has a deep score, and the inner pulley slots have been ripped. Yikes.
The generator light didn't come on, so I am hoping the fan was still spinning at least a bit, but the belt must have got really hot too, as when I tried to refit it, I can't get it tight enough, so must have stretched.

So I need new pulley halves at least, a new fan belt, and hope there is no heat damage to the engine.

Makes sense... mine was a deluxe that seemed to have been pillaged of the good bits over the years!

  11. Try to get a 2nd hand original pulley , they come up on ebay every now and again .
The repro ones are pants .

If they fail the engine will overheat , you may have been lucky - i was when mine let go in Austria .
It was minus whatever, colder than cold and very dark . I managed to limp to a campsite , pick up everything i needed over the next few days and headed off again , been on there ever since ...
Luckily no apparent heat damage but i had the engine rebuilt about 15 years later the builder did say at some point it`d got VERY hot

    Hope you`re lucky

  18. It’s the little half moon key that locks the pulley on the shaft , most of the usual places will stock them ,sorry don’t have a spare I don’t think .
