  1. They're oiled hardboard ones from MadMatz. My previous MDF ones from JK just fell to pieces. Useless, if there's any water around.

having come to terms with the fact the wireing is over 40yrs old and a newly refurbished starter is more tempremental than before its refurbish, ive fitted a empi hard start relay , and discovered that my battery isnt up to the job anymore .
however i can report the relay is a complete success as is the starter

Recently lost a step rubber in the Dales. Could have been Masons at Appletreewick?
So it has been replaced today.

  8. Took the R&R bed back out to see if it would be easier to drill through for my leisure battery fuse box, didn't help but did pull a muscle in my back in the process.

  9. If it was vaguely connected to the new battery, might be worth checking your engine earthing arrangements as an outside chance.

I stuck a new battery in one of my (autobox) Fords years ago, and the kickdown cable promptly welded solid. Turned out that the engine earth had dropped off, and cable was the only thing earthing the engine. V. unlikely, but worth a look?

  10. Fitted new top pulley, woodruff key and shims.

Tried to start but the hot start issue appeared to have became a general start issue - turn keys, lights dim a lot and a light asthmatic wheezing sound from the starter.

Found my bestest hammer to 'check' the starter, only to find it hanging loose, as presumably I had not the done the bolts up tight enough after the last rush to get the engine back in.

Now it's in and square to the engine it fires up wonderfully. So the general pushing its round whilst hot (and associated burn to the leg) and jump starts down hills are all my fault. Idiot.

Well, got to the garage earlier to find my Dad had etch primed and started to high build prime Majors new front panel. My Mum had been out shopping all day & left him at home!
I didn't have much to do, so I cleaned up the Schultz gun ready to stone chip the deformation panel tomorrow. Progress is going well :)

  16. Arrived back from france at midnight after 2 weeks tripping through normandy and brittany. New worry gauges worked well.

Only trouble we had was sounding like a lancaster bomber one day so checked underneath and found 2 holes in the exhaust system: 1 in the cat replacement pipe and 1 in the neck of the heat exchanger. I squirted some holts gum on it but it blew straight out again.

Remembered that I had bought clamps a year ago to put on my inlet runner rubbers but never got around to fitting.....fortuitous as they sealed almost perfectly over the holes. Bought some exhaust wrap at Super-U just in case but didnt need it.

So file this in the "I went to France and didnt breakdown" pile :)
