  1. Oh, and fixed the windows in the Polo using switches made by the Happy Good Fortune Window Switch Company. They may last a couple of months.

  2. I gave mine a coat of wax on the back to help protect them from moisture ingress
When I try and fit the clips they now won't stay still and pop off
Not so clever now am I ☹️

Have you not got a properly fitted membrane?

  5. I have, sir, a double membrane a la VW. The cards still rot.

Try it without, pickup has original cards with no membrane and they're not as bad as that, and it lives outside not that far from Manchester

  7. I think the original VW cards were oiled hardboard. My originals looked a bit manky, but they were 35 years old. MDF just soaks up water: it's the wrong material to use.

So, had help home this morning from the orange taxi.... clutch cable snapped on the way to work :(

Despite having one in the van it wasn't a roadside repair.

Being towed on a bar I did think to myself, this must be what it's like to drive a BMW :D

I followed his van at a distance of 1.2m / 0.2 seconds expecting him to get out of my way!

  11.

  12. I was towed on a bar behind a breakdown van, in the rain, at night, on the isle of Wight. Most terrifying driving experience of my life. :-0

  16. Took my carb off to change the main jet moved up from a 120 to a 130 also drained the oil and put fresh in the old stuff smelled of petrol but considering I drove about a hundred miles on three cylinders back from Brean I'm not surprised lol

Finished off the rear valance, flatted back some little filler spots and blasted a couple of coats of etch primer on :)

Picked her up after her overnight stay at the local garage... now with added clutch cable.

I'm amazed at how light the clutch pedal now feels... I guess if you've only known a tight cable and heavy pedal, you're not going to expect anything else!

Drove it from Southampton to Bristol then picked up a van load of bags and boxes and my daughter from University. Then drove down to Stourhead Gardens for lunch. And home again. 220 miles on about 45 litres of fuel. must not touch the carb its going well and economical.

Unlike last night where the battery positive clamp was tight enough to start it but then the alternator light came on dimly and the battery voltage hit 20 volts. Stopped, found loose clamp, tightened the clamp and the problem went away. Then the screen wash electric washer pump failed...volts on pump but no movement. Last time I used it , it made a graunch noise but ran OK after a bit..
