  3. I wish everybody who is taking part the very best of luck and I hope you will keep posting on here to let us know how you are all doing.

I gave up at the beginning of July this year. I used to smoke roll ups and got through a packet of tobacco in 5 to 7 days.

I am not going to bull!@*#. I have found it very hard to give up. I had tried many times before but failed each time. This is the longest I have ever managed (my previous record was 3 weeks). What I find particularly disappointing is that even after 3 months I am still suffering from cravings where I would dearly love to have a ciggy just about every time I think about it or see somebody else smoking. I have not yet found a solution to this problem. I also think I am less tolerant, patient and even tempered than I used to be.

I keep wondering if things will ever feel "normal" again. It only goes to show what a very nasty addiction it is and yes, dont kid yourself, its is a real addiction.

I was a "child of the sixties" hippy and, apart from injections, did everything so I find it rather ironic that its the tobacco that got me hooked.

  4. Grrrr just had a very stressful conversation with someone at work.

Would normally nip out for a cig to calm down.

Sitting typing furiously at my desk instead is not making me feel any better

    :(

  5. I threw away half a pack this morning, my lighter too, and am tempted now to go and dig through the bin to find them, but its been about 18 1/2 hours since my last cigerette, so i will battle on, I will battle on, i will battle on, i will battle on.

  6. Stick with it guys, giving up fags was the best thing I ever did.

  7. good luck to all of you doing the stoptober

i stopped about 6 months ago when the doctor told me that my smoking was helping to build up
the LD cholesterol and i had a 23% chance of a heart attack one day
    so that was me stopped

I've not really thought about it today which is a result.
Quite surprising when I have a couple of thousand smokes upstairs!

  9. My dear fellow 'Stoptoberers'....I am but a weak and feeble minded oik! I have let you all down and feel such a charlatan. :-[ To be honest,I totally forgot this morning and I didn't realise until a friend reminded me. I half blame the fact that I still haven't received the 'Stoptober' help pack with free stress toy. I will try and redeem myself tomorrow by starting a new life on a new day.
Well done to the rest of you and keep it up.

You haven't missed much by not receiving the pack: It's rubbish!

  12. Waaaaaaaaaaa I'm already a failure.

Stressed myself out trying to fit new headlight rims to the bug which turned into a shockingly labourious job. Was at home where the husband had cigs and sneaked one of his.

On the positive side, at least I've only had one today, whereas usually I'd have had 20.

    :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

It really is the hardest thing I've had to do in my life, but I did it, millions do, millions have.

The cravings go away in time, slowly, but the first few days are the hardest. Get through those and use it as an excuse not to let yourself down!!

    Good luck!!!

  15. Well done to you all for giving it a go, don't give up giving up tho! I'm currently not ready to give up and I do believe you need to be in a place in your head where you want to give up not just because someone says you should, unless it's your doctor but let's face it they will always say that and then nip out at lunch for a big mac & a large fag!

Keep going tho you won't regret it...

    Robo...

  18. it took me 3 years to give up .... on and off ..... YOU have to be ready to give up - otherwise it will never happen.

When I quit - I got through two pouches of tobacco the night I knew would be my last - smoked to the point where I knew I would never want to smoke again ......... It worked!

  20. Day 2 done, no patches and only wrigley's gum which is nowhere near as nice as it used to be! did take a couple of drags off a stale electric fag last night, and i am very short on patience, but hey ho, (not sure mrs MH has noticed i've stopped yet)
