  1. I use upol acid etch 8 it comes in a red can

Ive never had anything but spot on results from it so maybe the primer your using doesent like the residue left from white spirit?

  2. good job on the engine bay outlaw .. I must admit I have been putting it of but inspired by you to make a start today !!!

PARADOX .. thanks for the tip .. might wire wool and try again after a weak water / vinegar wash ? should see of any bicarb I didn't shift ?

finished of the last few bits of tidying up the filler .. few pin holes etc ...glad to see the back of that job .. hope it comes up ok when sprayed.

VERY glad i didn't have too much to do ,,, heavens only knows how some of you with more to do had the patience !!! tried hard on the front panel. Still not decide to remove the petrol tank or not ? looks in very good condition and the hose to the filler seems in pretty good shape ? but seems like a small final job and can then get the body sprayed with the tank out ? (even if nobody will ever see it !)

  3. Are you going to paint it yourself ????

  4. no plans to paint my self .. thought about it a bit but garage too small, no experience or gear and keen to get a good finish so decide that was the one bit I would send out .... fancy a break from the shell for a bit working on the engine while the shell is away for a spray

  5. Ok i had thoughts about it , it looks good so far what colour are you going ??

  6. youl never fail to get advice on here , plenty in the same boat , is the place to be great work owen nw ;)

  7. Remove the tank dude that way you can fully inspect it and if its ok give it a good coat of paint

It will also allow you to waxoyl the area after paint

  8. your right on the tank seems silly not to yank it out ...

on the colour front thinking about mango green (a 60's VW colour) with off white on top ? but still much discussion with the wife to be had ... definately going for a muted look rather than Jaffa or yellow !

  9. Gave the engine compartment a tidy, rust proof and prime .. Tank out, not much rust underneath ... On hols for a few weeks now so no progress planned ! Made a piece for the cut out where the AC unit was for cooling tin but out of gas so have not got round to welding it in ..
