A very good idea indeed, I wonder if @Terrordales knows anybody in DownUnderLand who wants to be our friend?
He has offered actually - I am quite happy to get involved. Managed to sort mine out for now, but long term it would make sense to get some.
Actually I do seem to remember he did on another thread. If he could post one and we got a load made up I'd certainly buy three for 'just in case' I've already got some spare rollers for when mine eventually go.
When I looked I found more than one length of mechanism but could only find one type of spring listed.
Don might be better located to get some definitive lengths. We'll just have to wait a while until he gets up.
Good O'l @Terrordales sorted mine out last year. I brought two and paid the Earth to have them shipped back to blighty! The good news is that I haven't fitted them yet and would be willing to lend one As long as it's not tested to destruction in the making of clones Who would be able to make that sort of thing? I supose the tension is key.
That's a very generous offer @allibus3 I'm not in engineering now so I have no contacts at all. I wonder if someone like @MorkC68 @davidoft or @Top Banana Racing know of somewhere suitable to get some springs made up?
I've just popped down to the garage and picked my van up (shiny new MOT, thank you very much) and I'll measure the three springs on mine. Obviously both sides will be the same length but I'm not sure about the back one.
To get a spring made up an engineer will need the diameter of the spring, the diameter of the metal and the number of coils, you can work out the spring rate by putting weights on the end and measuring how much it extends by. (k=mx ) k=is spring stiffness M=mass X=extension if I remember correctly , will Have a check
Hi all, I asked Ashfield Springs for a quote on 10 of these, they will do less but it may affect the price. @sANDYbAY is the rear smaller Working from the pictures they has sent a guide price of £18 plus carridge so I'd expect a final price around £19 each. Then there's the postage out from me to consider, £2? This is for a natural oil finish, I have asked for options of weather proofing and they can't tell if they have the right guage wire galvanised until they see the sample. They will do these in Stainless for about 20% more So who's up for this then and can we afford stainless? BTW I paid £50 for two inc p&p from via Terrordales in June 2013, doesn't time fly , they took about 3 months on the slow boat. I'm happy to post them a sample if there's enough interest.
Added Group Buy and put it in General Discussion for now I'd probably be more interested in Galvanised but would like to know a price stainless.
