So are we allowed to go camping?

  1. As per the other posts from me I'm away in a cottage it dawned on me early on the burden I would be to the local services if I got sick we made a decision to cut down our person to person contact.
No cafes pubs ect only food shops and outdoors.
Now I'm thinking about how the poor sod that has to come and clean the cottage for next week so im going to clean this place from top to bottom on Sunday as we brought some industry standard cleaner with us.
Putting others at risk with camping is a no from me right now.
Everywhere is shutting down up here anyway it seems.

    Stay safe folks

No. My son/crew spent a week in intensive care with pneumonia when he was 3 months old and has damaged lungs. I've also suffered ill heath over the past few years and have been almost completely bedridden for the majority of it. We're "concerned" and doing our best to keep away from everyone. When we shop we leave the shopping in the van for a few days - yep we're isolating our food! Why not? We'd rather look a bit silly than a bit dead, it's that simple and this virus lives on polystyrene/plastic/metal for up to 3 days. Yikes. Yes I'm probably a nutter but better nuts than dead I always say. Being a laughing stock is nothing new. :D

Meanwhile other son and his woman arrived in NZ on a 2 year working Visa days before NZ started taking it seriously. Her ignorant stupid selfish mother is laying it on thick for her to come home right away. I'm doing the opposite, we have friends at the South of the South island, they got the ferry to the South island yesterday and are heading straight there where they will sleep in their car for a few weeks just in case they have caught it on the flight or subsequently, then see where we all are. Taking it a day at a time and being as cautious as possible can't be the wrong approach IMO.

  4. Although it's not due to take place for months, I've accepted my Denmark & Sweden camping trip is very unlikely to happen this year.

Lots of self isolated day trips is the likelihood for this year

Blimey you do right to be careful. I’m a bit concerned as have mild asthma but have scar tissue on my lungs from many chest infections so I don’t want any further reduced capacity.

good idea Re the shopping. I’ve got wipes in my work van and wipe my hand, phone, keys, steering wheel and gear stick every time I get back in.

wondered about shopping but did nothing further. I did wear gloves in B&Q this morning. I’ve bought some OSM to false floor platform my work van while I’m not working.

Be careful out there. Sure you can wipe your hands and keys, but anything and pretty much everything we buy is packaged in materials that this virus finds quite suitable for survival. It's very difficult to find the path through this without appearing unduly alarmist or unduly complacent.

Lol, she won't do that! She is head office!
Set up to work from the boat during the day and just hold morning briefings. Any other essential office based stuff she'll do after hours.

it’s possible I should wear gloves all the time and wipe everything down. Stay well @zedders. Good thing is that you have lovely nature outside to lift your spirits xx

  13. As long as I stay away from other people I think its ok.

It's only a matter of time before this kind of thing becomes official advice I think? ALL of how we have been behaving so far has subsequently become the thing to do. I try and keep ahead of the game because it appears to me that the Gov is doing all it can to prevent utter panic, and part of that is to ramp slowly up to a level of behaviour that needs time to sink in for many, despite being necessary right now.

I'm no clever clogs, I'm just exceptionally lucky to be in a position to hide away without any economic fall out (hopefully) and rant at the rest of you who aren't so fortunate. I apologise for this but it doesn't make me wrong. No income for either of us- zero, ziltch, nada, living on savings...forever. A kind of freedom. All we need now is a banking collapse and frankly THEN we'd be totally boogered. Fingers crossed.

Airbnb have changed their cancellation policy recently to full refunds on all cancellations. Seems the right thing to do. Only up to 14th of April for now but I’m guessing that will have to change.

I’m sure @zedders has got it right. It drives me mad how many people are in denial. We went for a walk yesterday in the forest and most people we passed at a good distance, but a group of cyclists were stood having a chat, blocking the path, not too keen to move.
I notice that people are being asked not to go to Cornwall at Easter because of the strain on services.

  17. Yup - I think it is right.

Bang on and part of my point about going outside to amuse yourself. You can do all you like but others may simply not bother and then where are you? I say let others do what they want, really, but I'm not going to put myself at risk because other people aren't bothering, I'm staying in.

The figures showing that for under 20's the chance of dying of this are virtually zero and 20-30 not much worse are not helping those age groups to be responsible. A threat to ones own existence carries a stronger message than a threat to some nameless old people. We need more vids from young people choking on social media, there has been a few, but this attitude that only the old really need to worry is bad. These old people are someone's loved relatives and friends and being young does not make you immune.
