Btw @zedders , I'm showing Mel your message as we speak.
It adds massive weight to her argument to know they aren't the only ones in this industry with such tough decisions to make x

  2. We know that all our bookings will be cancelled one way or another. That’s just how it is and it will be costly. The advice is not to travel but holiday makers in UK can’t claim on ins as not mandatory. I suspect we’ll end up refunding the deposits the agent still holds and disappears when they go bust. C’est la vie

  3. The National Trust has closed all its buildings but are allowing public access to the grounds for free.

Everyone needs to get outdoors as much as is practicably possible and should take advantage of this if they can.

T'was why I posted really. Sod the money - you (I'm making an educated guess) and I and Bern and Jenny and many others can afford to sit out a year or two, we're very lucky. Because we are in this lucky position I think we owe it to those around us who are not so independent to do everything we can to help by staying home. Me and son are barely changing our lives because we're pretty damn isolated anyway and already shopped only once per week. I stopped visiting my old age neighbours 6 weeks ago, I haven't been waiting to be told. This is NOT FLU. In time we will be TOLD to stay home so why wait? Dot it now if you can folks.

I will try not to be rude here. I don't know how to respond politely to this, it's beyond me.

  5. Its ok, i know what you mean, I meant within practicable distance to you, maybe even a walk, which is still ok to do I believe - I'm not suggesting mass travel adventures.

  6. Good to see you back. The office in our marina has been closed to protect the staff and few resident live aboards, I'm concerned about using shared facilities for same reason. Usually when I am down on the yacht I speak to loads of them and they are all in or close to the vulnerable category age and health wise. Like you I am surprised how many are in denial or is it delusion? Dont worry there's no north south divide similarly bad hygiene practices are alive in Hampshire and the rest of the south. This week I witness a man come out of the toilet having had a Marmite with phone in hand, he then washed his hands and then took same phone out the pocket. He clearly doesn't understand basic hygiene and infection transmission.

I believe the advice is, if you don’t have symptoms, you can still go out for walks so long as you practice social distancing. We’re lucky here I guess, we have miles and miles of (relatively) empty moors and dales to walk in. Saw loads of joggers out yesterday as well. It’s important, if you can, to stay physically active.

  8. Who runs/owns your marina? We're at a Castle Marinas one, they have 5 inshore (if that's the right term) marinas. I will find out what another large company are doing if you want further info to support closing the office Mrs B works in?

This is just while they're wondering what to do. I can see them only opening the office every other day for an hour. Maybe one morning a week, who knows? It's reassuring to see them trying. The manager is a total wimp despite being ex-rugger type, utterly selfish two-faced fellow so who knows? I can see him and his missus resigning and doing a runner to their "big" boat, they were planning to retire in a year or so anyway.

  10. Bloody Lancastrians..... no different here mate. To be honest my local shops are plagued by coffin dodgers every Saturday morning. Why TF they don’t shop in the week I’ve no idea except it seems to be a socialising thing for them and they will stop and chat to each other. Queue in the Co-op was twenty deep.... all pensioners. Hanging around outside chatting about it too. It’s just not real to them at all. I left without buying anything. I will go back tonight and chance my luck. So.... it’s a bit Darwenian really. Price of bungalows might plummet in a few months when the markets flooded! That’s not a sick joke btw. It was disappointing to say the least that they haven’t the sense they were born with.
Im at work and still in close company with colleagues through necessity.

We’ve got over a thousand foreign students who can’t get home (although that’s reducing slowly) including quarantines and a few with the virus I’m told! We’re trying to set up teaching and accommodation for NHS volunteers. Yes, we’re being as careful as we can but I’ve had to tell trades staff who are still in work to stop queueing up to clock out and to keep their distance from each other. Would tell them not to clock in and out at all but staffing getting thinner and we need to know who’s there and who isn’t.

nowt so funny as folk eh!

  11. Btw. Always nice to hear from you as you know. Glad your keeping safe. Btw. West Lancs isn’t proper Lancs.. its full of scousers. you need to go east for less numptyness. That said it’s getting overrun with posh mancs who can’t quite affordCheshire. Lol

and yes... I am joking... I love Mancs and Scousers!

Yes, you're right about the scousers, they're only 15-20 miles away and a weird bunch to be sure. Funny story...
I sanded my boat 8-9am one Saturday.
At 9am out of boat came scouser.
eff eff eff eff, What effing time do you call this?
    Morning Graham, 9am
eff eff When did you effing start?
    8am.
    On a effing saturady?
You don't work, what's so special about Saturday? Marina manager says it's ok, I asked. :)
    eff eff eff.
For the next month he went out of his way to scowl at me at every opportunity. Pretty funny but after a month I asked him how long he was going to keep it up.
    "You haven't apologised yet"
    What for?
"For effing waking me effing up!"
You haven't apologised either said I.
    What for?
For effing and blinding - would YOU apologise to someone who gave you a gob full like that?
"oh eeer, I'm not very good in the mornings"
And that was that. Nice bloke really, but "he's from Liverpool".

It's privately owned fortunately so no heavyweight corporate bullMarmite for them to wade through. The downside is that responsibility can't be ducked.
@Mrs Busmonkey is already know as the bitch by certain members of our community for simply asking them to pay moorings on time, have respect for others, especially her staff and generally stopping their chiseling.
Would be good to know what Castles policy is moving forward though:thumbsup:
