So are we allowed to go camping?

We're having the exact same discussion here now Moons.
Mrs Monkey manages Shardlow Marina on behalf of the owner. She's in a meeting this morning discussing how to best manage the forthcoming season. For Easter the campsite is rammed. One of the attractions of Shardlow, notwithstanding the fact it's mainly a conservation area around the old canal, is the fact we have 8 pubs in the village.
Well, the pubs are shut now obviously so the facilities are going to take even more of a battering than normal.
I suspect they'll be damned whatever they do...

My personal attitude towards this btw is that there is only one course of action that can sensibly be run, and that is to temporarily suspend all bookings. Thats gonnabe hard on some people, especially the sections of population who don't, won't or can't see any issues.
They may be right...but what if they're not!!

Jesus, it’s harder to say what I’m saying when it’s reality hits like that.

I can’t see how we won’t follow the French model, no travel outside of house unless essential....I think we’ll get there in a week or two.

I’d plan for zero attendance I’m afraid to say....when we start seeing hundreds of people dying and mass testing will give a more informed view, that will become law.

I’m self employed and stand to lose not quite the lot (depending on how long it carries on).

I have zero joy being the buzz killer.

I mentioned it the other day, the government mentioned as a by line why they’ve not gone nuclear on lockdown and that’s simply due to people becoming bored and going back to normality right at the peak.

I 100% believe that we should self lockdown now, and assume it’s coming by law.

Sorry buddy, it’s not a pile on on you....it’s you asked first is all.

It’s a general approach to the question.

I know bud. It's not just the campsite they have to consider here it's the hundreds of people who live in close contact on boats and in caravans and static holiday homes.
Facilities have to be shared, such as elsan disposal and the chandlery office is the hub of it all.
People are already stealing the free loo rolls provided...

  7. What are you lot on about? Wild camping is totally what the vans are designed for. A quick overnight or weekend somewhere away from others wouldn’t hurt anyone and be a brilliant way of keeping cheerful. If you’ve got a Bay, you are officially the luckiest people in the world.
Why TF did I just sell my van - suddenly THE perfect vehicle for our times? Talk about rubbish timing.
The alternative now is heading off in our ancient Discovery with my small, dodgy, leaky tent and homicidal camping gaz cooker.

  8. One of the breeding grounds of Corona is hot warm steamy areas I would imagine that a high risk of contagion would be shared facilities like campsite toilets and showers.
Unless told otherwise we intend to go to places like Brancaster Beach and just have a walk then have a van based picnic.
    As I say if allowed

Don’t worry @Moons . Your point of view is important . That is indeed why I asked.

  10. Stay home, don't go camping, give yourself self imposed restriction of movement.

The fewer people anyone can come in contact with the better. People need to think about the bigger picture.

    STAY HOME.

The transmission rate is 2 to 1, so 1 person infects two etc etc . The last leg showed it on a chess board last night, 8 squares wide. By the end of the 3rd row 8million people could potentially be infected.

    STAY HOME

We’ll start seeing more and more ‘young, CrossFit gym monkey on a ventilator in intensive care’ media over the next few weeks so the whole population ceased the denial bit and assuming it’s only the old that are affected.

The nuclear reality in healthcare is literally a triage in A&E where whatever is wrong with you is graded and you are given a survivability rating...fall off a ladder, grind a finger off, Coronavirus....they’ll look at injury, options they have, age, health and you might get turned away. Don’t be fooled by the chat bots they are putting on the online NHS services, I imagine even 999 calls will be handled by an AI with the above rules if things get really bad....so your ambulance might never arrive.

We literally can prevent the above. It’s in our hands right now.

  12. I would think that hotels, campsites and holiday accommodation will be shutdown fairly soon.

We have a holiday let that is pretty much fully booked from
Beginning of April ‘til end of aug into sept.

We use an agent and the t&c’s wont allow people to cancel bookings without loosing money for deposits or claim on travel insurance until there is a shutdown and effectively the accommodation is unavailable.

I don’t want people to travel for their holiday because they can’t get money back so are still going but If if I cancel their bookings outside of our contract with the agent I owe them their commission. lord knows.

It's not about the so called bugging out facet of van ownership, it's about more common camping on sites with shared facilities that is potentially the ticking bomb. That's what we're on about x

  14. I know! What I meant is, just don’t go to campsites - you have the perfect vehicle for isolated fun on wheels.

Change your agent. Anyone who puts money over health/disease/gov’t advice are purely scum.

Tough one Matt because whatever happens there is a financial implication. We've all got to get used to that in one way or another.
Here there is a sort of Boris approach being actioned which will be communication initially asking people to consider their needs relative to the implications.
Suggestion that they will have to use their own facilities and bring in and carry out what they need and subsequently produce.
Over the coming few days, the reality of the potential danger will start to filter through the population of people booked in and some will cancel themselves.
By the end of next week I'm sure the management will be more comfortable with decisions moving forward.
My point to the owner was that it's ultimately more damaging to the business long term to be considered an epicentre of an outbreak if Marmite hits the fan on a local level.

  17. I think the agent are trying to keep the business open after this is over- they employ a lot of people. Maybe they will change policy after the 80% wages think last night.

I haven't posted here for a long time. But... Seems like a good point to join in again. Hi everybody.

Top marks to Moons, Bus monkey and all. Stay at home! What's the matter with you? Go camping? No!

Bus Monkey - Our office here - there's a room between the office and front door. The chairs went straight away. Post is collected via the front door - you ask, they look, they throw it on the table and retreat, you pick it up if you dare. There's a notice this morning - one person in the office at a time. Hardly anyone is using the communal facilities. My neighbours who I love like my own parents - he's 80 and has a triple bypass and built in defibrillator, she's 70, has COPD and also Pneumonia as often as not WITHOUT COV.

We have zero kids on the marina here thank god, but when it arrives here - TBH I'd say 80% of live aboards are retired age and older, I could count without even trying, (including the neighbours) a couple of dozen people with heart, lung, diabetes problems etc. At least 10 struggle to walk to the office, it's going to be a Marmite storm here. There are 100 boats and maybe 100 full timers so that's a big % of at risk people. If I contracted and passed it around the marina, presuming I even knew, I'd find it hard to live with myself.

And yet - we have a similar number in total denial, planning their cruising, standing face to face chatting for an hour, visiting each others boats, NOT WASHING THEIR HANDS IN THE TOILETS. It's pretty crazy but the typical Lancastrian has no faith in "the system", doesn't believe anything they are told and think they'll shrug off this "flu" so F everyone else.

An old fellow arrived here from where he lives in the canaries during the winter yesterday. As I walked past him and said Hi, he retreated 20ft down his mooring to talk to me and kept taking another step back. When he left the police were arresting anyone who dared walk down the street within 3m of anyone else. The Brits there are as usual behaving badly, more concerned with getting home than anything, mingling away as if nothing was happening before getting on their possibly COV choked flights to bring it here. Nice. He's lucky that he rents in the middle of a village far from the tourists but he appeared well trained (by the Spanish) in keeping distance.

    Best wishes to everyone.

The syncro is up in the car park all fueled up and the bay is in storage in rural zombie free Lincolnshire with a full tank of cooking and heating gas....it's all about me me me.
Oh and we've got gin and wine. Considering the @davidoft method of unwanted cuddly toy on a stick for more personal hygiene requirements
