Mine got ruined in a shed roof leak last year. Toshiba too John! Now I have a iPhone and a Bose Bluetooth speaker and headset. Pretty good really
Mine got split up/ sold off, when we moved in to a tiny flat years ago... the amp and speakers are still going strong in the workshop though.. as the neighbors will testify...
Ha, I'm amazed it's still working to be honest! It's suffered water / coffee spills, grinding dust, paint, sub zero damp conditions... still going strong!
My bits are second hand, bought cheap and are 1970's vintage. Entry level deck and budget amp in their day but still sound awesome, we've forgotten what you loose from modern systems incredible as bluetooth mp4 and compact bass systems are these days. The receiver/amp is a Sansui 551 Deck is an entry model Sansui SR-1050c manual turntable with Audio Technica AT-95E cartridge. It needed a bit of fettling to free the turntable as old lube had gummed up the spindle. New belt and cartridge, sorted. I love the details which got lost on many budget systems in the 80's and 90's. You need a balance to set up the tone-arm, which IMO just adds to the fiddle factor! Love fiddling... Just before Xmas I connected up an old pair of 1st gen. Spendor SA1 mini-monitors. They've not been used for over 20 years and have the usual poor loft storage blemishes. I'm not yet sure if they bring out the best in vinyl, perhaps being better suited to digital sources but they were free and still go for stupid money second hand. I need to play with placement but tbh i'm not going to waste too much time as this is all set up down the workshop! The above pic is not mine and pinched from the net. Mine are in worse overall condition but nothing a few hours fettling on the cabinets and fresh grilles won't sort. Gifted to me as they are no longer used. Lucky boy....
They are good Amps for the money.. think mine is about 15 years old now, and it's been abused in the workshop for at least 8 of them. So it's a thumbs up from me.
A pot's a pot, whatever it's in! Worth a short shot of switch cleaner into them and a good waggle back and forth. Also worth taking the lid off and checking for anything loose, or any blown fuses. Some older amps may have internal protection fuses that might have popped.
Upstairs: arcam alpha cd player, arcam amp Denon tuner. With monitor audio 9 speakers in rosewood. Downstairs: marantz amp and cd player, project turntable and tannoy speakers. Sent from my SM-J320FN using Tapatalk
Pretty impressed with the new Project Essential 111 Bluetooth deck. I set one up for some friends over New Year and played through their B&O A2 bluetooth speaker the sound is remarkable. The downside is the silly belt arrangement which you need 3 hands to fit or change speed. A minor niggle though
Marantz CD57 cd player ... a bit dead ? Marantz ST57 tuner. .. still working .. Marantz PM57 amp ..still working .. Wharfedale speakers Still in the living room. Used to provde a thumping soundtrack to blu-ray movies. Sort of wedged behind a tower PC.. My wife and I used to work for Philips and one benefit was an allowance of free Philips consumer electronics. Marantz was one of their brands.
Well having swallowed my slight indignation about buying 2nd hand again (stamps foot and has slight tantrum because I want something neeeeeew!!) I’ve had a long old look at eBay. Blinking hell, there’s just too much to choose from.... and I want something with decent power and sound clarity, music is hugely important in my life - my record collection especially - and I don’t know where to start! And all the really good stuff is collection only from Grimsby or Bradford or other places a million miles away! *humph* Richer Sounds is looking more attractive.... I needed another credit card anyway..... But I will have a go at cleaning up the old one anyway; nothing ventured and all that. What could possibly go wrong?
Ive got a nice one but its not working for one reason or another. bought 20 plus years ago from Richer Sounds in Stockport there still going.
Ah thank you! Lord knows if I’d ever find it again, but if i do come across it and it looks like a goer I might take you up on the offer
