  5. Wow, I'll bet you wanted to slip the cover back on right away.LOL Wonder how the arm broke? did the piston hit the valve up out of the way? Makes you wonder some times doesn't it.

  6. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

  7. I like that the motor can't eat itself if something goes wrong with a single part. It gives us something to start the rebuild with. LOL

  9. Got 2 new push rods and 2 rockers fitted, it turns over nice and smooth so it's worth giving it a try.

Still struggling to get my head around ignition timing

Removed the mechanical fuel pump as it looked a little grubby.

Little did I know it was blocked solid, it was full of sticky gunge inside and the in and out of the pump was blocked with white crusty stuff

This is what's come out of it so far

Nearly cleaned out, the diaphragms look ok, so it may even work

  10. Based on those results, I'd make sure you look into the lines coming from the tank. I think white crusty's are from water. (at one point)

  12. Great work! One step at a time and after a while you're behind the wheel. (and not just pushing it around the shop). LOL

  14. Got the engine in place today,
Took a bit of time, as 1 I didn't take the thing out, do don't really know how it goes back in,
2 working on my own doesn't make big jobs particularly easy.

    Got my trolly jack
    [IMG]

    And my engine hoist
    [IMG]

Working in harmony together, after I took the carbs off yet again. Pushed the bus over the engine which is now sat on the floor. Lifted the engine up with the hoist enough to get the jack under,
Then it was a case of lift if a bit, check, lift a bit, check again, lift a bit, wiggle, clonk, we're in

7 of the 8 bolts went in nice, the top left gearbox bolt gas been sheared off inside the bell housing at some point in its life. Can't shift it so that will have to wait for another time.
Carbs back on and the torque converter bolted in.
Put some power to the starter motor and it cranked over, just, on a very flat battery. No nasty noises so I'm happy there.
Tomorrow I'll dump the oil and put some fresh stuff in, and get some fuel and try it.
Also need to connect the 3 vac connections on the rear of the engine. 2 of which I think I know where they connect the other I'm not so sure

  15. Great job. You should have set back and patted yourself on the back for that work. Getting them in and out by yourself is a bit, but with practice........you know!

  17. Good luck with the start.

  19. Very good news, it's a runner

Took a while to get it there, and swapped the mech pump for the electric one as I couldn't get it to prime.

But I think it runs pretty well, smoked a little bit but I'm sure that's to be expected of an engine that's not been run for a long while.

    Happy days

  20. Watched the vid. from end to end. Congrats. You mentioned the gas pump did not work. Just a thought, when i first put our motor back in, I'd reversed the lines on the pump by mistake. That and now that the fule is going by you may be able to get it to work.

BUT, I'll do a happy dance for you. one more thing off the list of , "what if's" .
