Been plugging away again, the rear bumper was letting him down a bit Added an aerial Painted the front grille Even managed to find some extra high roof bars for shifting the kayak about for camping trips, they are a bit higher than I was expecting though
Had a package turn up from rusty Lee All fitted in, A run into work for a bit of a shake down (we have Marmite car Friday) But on the way home I was accelerating up a steep hill and noticed a bit more slip in second gear than I thought there should be (003 3 speed auto) loads of revs and not much gaining in speed. Could be how he is, but I have not changed the fluid in the box since I got him. Queue the next hefty kick in the nads This is what was lurking in the sump of the 003 auto box. And this is a section of brake band which more than likely belongs to 2nd gear So it’s either a rebuild or a replacement of the 003 or looking into a manual conversion The level of gutted-ness is massive for poor old camp uggy today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I still haven’t finished sulking over the gearbox just yet I have taken uggy to see a top gearbox guy for a test drive and although it’s still doing all the right things, the whining noises are a tell tale sign of planetary gear wear So I’m going to keep him running as is and collect parts over the summer to do a manual conversion come winter time Just need to take it easy in second (hopefully it’ll get us to a couple of campsites) So in the mean time, interior is still happening This rear cupboard has been shortened, a shelf relocated to above the door opening and a hanging rail put in A few more modifications to the other units and a prime and paint all around to protect the MDF Rolled out the carpet We are getting bits done, just need that gearbox to hold out until the end of summer
It’s been another large amount of time since I updated uggys resto post He got a badge, 3D printed by one of my mates Lots of interior trimming New rear seat cushions and front seat covers with matching curtains We even managed a 100 mile round trip to Burnham on Crouch. Which went with a few minor hickups (mainly hills with a 2 speed auto and a front wheel bearing that needed some grease) New bars fitted to the roof rack We had a trial camp out in the back garden and fitted some black and silver number plates Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
With the garden trial a success we headed out for an official camp out at a real site. Living the dream after 11 years of ownership It was a good test with 50mph gusts of wind, sideways rain which took its toll on the gazebo but it was fantastic Whilst we were there we had a naming ceremony Some more trimming up front for the kick panels Made a shelf Added a boat and went camping again Even with 2nd gear no longer in the room it still made the trip from Thurrock to Huntingdon quite comfortably
Thanks, even though it’s gearbox is failing I still try to use him at least one a week I’m out in it today, we have Marmite car Friday at work, it’s normally the bug that gets the job but it’s uggys turn today
Fitted a diesel night heater u see the passenger seat . Cut myself an access hatch and drilled the floor below to for the exhaust, inlet and fuel Had a few teething issues It was stuck in 007 smoke screen mode I ended up taking it apart, where I found the glow plug was not installed correctly( only by about 8 turns) and this has caused it not to start but still push fuel in. This then filled the exhaust up as it hadn’t done the best job of making sure everything went down hill . Working like a champ now though, toasty warm and no smoke screens to be had
When I was hunting down a drive plate for my auto, there were a couple of T25’s been broken that had auto gearboxes…. think changing from early to later auto gearbox will be easier than auto to manual. Mine has the later box, fitted at some point in its Australian life.
I did look a little at that route, I couldn’t find anything that didn’t look like it had been recovered from the titanic That and the ease of getting a manual box rebuilt or finding another to swap out will be much easier in the long run I have pretty much everything I think I need to do the swap now, just need to find the right time to crack on with it
