Olympics

  1. I love it. Athletics, cycling, rowing, sailing... what's not to like? Oh yes, football, politics, security, hype, ohhhh beginning to loose interest.........

  2. I'm looking forward to watching the road cycling races......could'nt get any tickets.

But I do think the current government with Cameron's big society.....and that dick Seb Coe could have done so much more to engage the disenfranchised youth who rioted last year......whoose idols at the moment are drug dealers in shabby BMW'S.
Hardly any of these kids will get tickets and it could have been a life changing experience. Put the main party in London's poorest area...but don't invite the natives.

I'm not too bothered either way. Will watch some cycling, diving and running I suspect and anything with Brits in the final.

Something I'm not sure of, why did/do the government want the Olympics? Is it set to make the country as a whole a profit or is it just for the kudos of hosting?

  4. I really couldn't care less about it, however I shall be watching the beach volley ball - but only 'cos my youngster is going on a school trip and will be in the audience!!!

Talking of Seb Coe.........doesn't he look remarkably like Barry Chuckle!!!

Just done a bit of research and I find that it is hoped to make a profit.

  7. I couldn't honestly care less. I mean, I hope we do well for national prides sake, but honestly, i'd rather watch a good comedy or tinker on my Bus.

  8. it's about to come through Lancing - I have a pigeon on a pole - which I hope to see on TV - unless the police steal it from me ...

  9. in a word ...... Velodrome................ team pursuit and individual pursuit .love it

just glad i don't live in London .you can keep it

  10. agreed....but I could'nt get any and I'm not sure if you live in a council flat with your Mum she would want to register he credit card before knowing the cost, which was the initial set up..[ correction I can still get beach volleyball tickets. ::) I know lots of schools are involved, but I don't think many kids that wandering around Croydon high street with a' hood-up 'today feel it has any relevance to them..they should have been given tickets for free.

  11. love the olympics but not bothered about being part of it anymore. Have paid my increased council tax, didnt get tickets and as of this morning, road restrictions are already a pain

  12. i ain't going and i ain't going to watch it on the tv
because i am going on a 2 week fishing holiday in the van with no
tv no radio and definitely no newspapers just peace and quiet
the only noise i will hear will probably be the rain and the occasional
    bottle opening

I've struggled with writing a catchall reply to this thread.

I can't think of any one event, in nature, or man made that will inspire everyone, bring comfort or hope or even interest to everyone, from all aspects of society.

Its a pity that the Olympics will get nit picked to death because it fails to achieve fixing some of societies ills - be that 'save a hoody' through to keeping out of someone's Soap schedule.

I can respect other peoples rights to not be interested, that's cool - but for every space shuttle launch there is an image of a starving child, for every council jolly there is a closed ward, for every sacked employee there are three or four surfing the web all day.

If the answer is lets do nothing, become totally risk averse and try nothing then we have lost the plot.

It might sound like I'm having a pop here - but boy talk about a thread that sucks the soul out of you, this is it (apart from the giant pidgeon with no legs).

  16. We watched the torch go past this morning ... well it went past the little chaps nursery and he had made his own olympic torch to wave so we werent going to miss it. 8)

I am hoping to head up and see the riders on the cycling road race dash past ... blink and they'll have gone by but hey its once in a lifetime stuff ... keep smiling folks east enders will still be around come september :(

  17. I wish I could get interested in it but I cant.
Its just becoming the big pain I expected, at work this morning our service engineers had trouble parking in the west end due to a large number of parking bays located near hotels being reserved for olympic cars only.
I have had to write off doing anything which I need to drive to either day over the weekend of 28th/29th unless I go away on the friday evening, living just outside Kingston we are totally encircled and isolated transport wise by the cycle road race route and the associated road closures from 4am on both days, if I have the opportunity of overtime available for those days I will have to turn it down as I wont be able to get there.

    Is it over yet?

  19. I'm looking forward to the whole thing. Really waiting for the cycling road race. A big chance of us getting a 1,2,3

Managed to blag a camping pitch in the grounds of a stunning 17th century mansion house right next to the course totally FOC.

It's free camping if nothing else.
