Bon jour . Just been reading your blog. I thought of another thing, have you got thermal screens? We froze when we first travelled in France in winter in our van, we didn't have screens. A helpful camper told us to get some. In one of the big camping shops they sold the fabric on a roll so we bought enough for all windows, bought a tool that put the holes and rings in the fabric, then the things that stick to the windows. Some duck tape finished off the edges and we were away! It did make a difference. Also we foolishly had butane which didn't work at zero temps , hope you've got propane Have a fab time, buy another sleeping bag to double up, cold nights in a van are poo. I'm waiting for ski photos now
Great blog post. Glad you've got heating now. Did you wear your hat in bed when you didn't have your hot water bottle?
Love your blog! You're v brave to take the high roads in the snow! the campsite looks amazing and you'll soon strike up some friendships with that van and won't feel so alone.
The public (french) only want to know soixante douze ,(72 year of the van) ,where as you postcode 17360 is all of it ... I used to drive in a sleeping bag (toasty) and probably legal in France...
Funny thing is I've just been in the campsite bar talking to a couple of ladies who live in Spain and travel in a T5. They told me all about what you said in your post. Will definitely get that sorted as it seems to work wonders - thanks!
Yes I wore my woolly hat - makes a big difference doesn't it? But nothing beats a hottie - ask the Wilmas!
What's the night time temperature there? Everyone's being amazed here about it being minus 8 last night. So what, I thought. So I googled lowest temps in Britain. Turns out it was -27! 1976 I think. Who says there's no global warming? S Stay warm!
It was 1982. I left work 15 miles from home at 2pm. I had to abandon the car eventually at 10.30 pm in 4ft of snow. I had to walk to the house I was doing up and slept there on the new bed covered in the carpets we had lifted off the floor. Two windows were missing in the house, but I was as snug as a bug in a rug. The neighbour woke me the next morning with a mug of soup. The recorded overnight temp was -27 in Newport shropshire, 20 miles from my house. I remember it well. It was a month before I got married.
