Bumpers painted and fitted, kind of. cracked the paint on the rear one bending it because it was a little bit twisted. Will be have a touch up at the end with lots of other areas when I snag it at the end.... one day... some day. Oh yeah, most of the glass is in now too. Cant get the chrome trim in the windscreen seal for the life of me ha.. gonna end up paying someone. yuk. Built the doors up to. I especially enjoyed the quarter lights and chrome window scraper fitment. Not. Bit tricky them aint they. Got there in the end though.
I've shortened the sump and pick-up as well. Removed about 2" off the bottom, squared out a chamfer at the front and added a pocket to the side to try and retain the capacity. Which it did, didn't een have to alter the dip stick.
Shiny new baby moons. Aerial and mirrors. Beauty rings... Treated meself to some shiny bits, sick of buying clips n stuff..
And then it was back on with some laborious stuff... polishing aluminium. Been putting this off and off but I am finally making a start on the louver windows for the hi top. Hate polishing. Surprisingly didn't take to much to make an immediate impression and get them shiny... I still haven't finished them though. Had a real tough time taking these rails apart, had to drill, and pretty much, carve up the alloy to remove the screws which were completely rotten and seized. I purchased much longer stainless screws to rebuild with. Some before and after polishing shots.
Last few pics of where June is up to now, Exhaust situated, door handles and most of the seals on. Most of the work recently has been electrical and not much progress to be seen. I am, however currently having a nightmare getting this hi-top to fit... Something has changed, and it can only be the bus. I am told by a very clever man that the fibre glass roof is thermo set plastic and does not expand/contract etc, nor will it warm in the sun. I did repair the gutter sections in the middle of the bus and I don't think they are as straight as they should be. I've been hacking away at the bottom of the roof to make a joinable contour... It will succumb! Trial fit of sun visor.. Currently on with wiring temp and oil pressure gauges, re-brushing the wiper motor because its blowing fuses. (drawing 49 amps from stall, not good) eeerm, what else..? oh yeah just received a nice accelerator linkage from buttys bits. so thats me setting that up. Oh yeah, dropped a clanger too, havent welded the little anchor bracket for the accelerator swivel under the drivers floor.. grrr, gonna have to spoil the paint. or the bracket for the pedal.
Just through the thread. Impressive work done! I definitively need to take more time to read everything properly! Thanks
Great thread, inspiration to others I'm sure. As said before high tops do look cool when lowered ! Perhaps thee 2.0 ltr was in there to power the additional weight of the pop top. Can't wait to see it painted !
Top top rebuild ! Amazing to see a former rot box made better than new !! Can't wait to see the next series !!
Nice 1 guys, nice comments. Can't wait to get out, wanna get down Newquay, Cornwall.. Lots of hols down there as a kid.. Well actually up to 2000 when I attended my last run to the sun. Definitely gonna be my first decent outing, trip all over Cornwall. Oh, I have a video of the first fire up.. Can I link to a vid, and how.. Is it just straight forward photo bucket and link..?
Video snippet of initial start up.. Compressed vid, sounds a bit tinny. Actually sounds great.. Obviously will only be a true test when I drive it... http://vid1119.photobucket.com/albu...Bay Resto part Sechs/IMG_0859_zpszs60tbt6.mp4
