  1. Hi all.. Ta guys. Bet most are still away, camping... :( My time will come... :)
Trawled the internet for the little gasket that goes behind the sliding door handle. Not pictured here lol, hasnt arrived yet.

Linking pressure tank to the thermostat trigger housing. New hose and pipe going acrodd the front of the engine, trial fitment at the mo but I quite like the look and its direct.

Popped the indicators on for trial, not wired yet though.

At this point I am nearing completion of the cooling system and heater loop layout and also the wiring is almost ready for trial. The engine and ECU is wired and the vans auxiliary wiring is almost complete. Gonna test the van 1st (perm and ignition feeds to light, hazards, wipers etc) and then try waking the engine.

  3. Nice 1 midmusq, I am very very fortunate to have the freedom and resources at the College to be able to take the time to get the bus how I want it. The guys on here who have restored their buses at the side of the house.. Wow, that's mind boggling, tis for me anyhow, mustering the effort after work is sometimes a real mental fight lol. hats off. ;)
a few more shots of progress.
Cooling system almost complete, just need to mount front heater matrix/blower to complete heater loop. Will add pics when done.

Removed the stainless box section that I mocked up to support the radiator. Have run threaded bar to the floor now and kept it height/rake adjustable. I have yet to seal all around the rad to the chassis legs with some ally sheet maybe. The final setup will mean any air entering the 'mouth' of the rad scoop will have to exit through the rad. Im yet to fit two 12" fans, one above, towards the front of the rad and wired as a 'push' fan and the other towards the rear of the rad and underslung and wired to 'pull'.

  4. Bought these window lifter channels, genuine Brazilian rubbish. Spot welds haven't penetrated and just cracked away whilst applying pressure during fitment. Have now bonded them together.

From here on in its as it happens... The bus is having a stainless steel exhaust built. This happens this Thursday. Cant wait, a little more fettling with wires n hoses and I'll be able to fire it up.

Wow this seems so long ago.. And that's cos it was. I reckoned it would take a couple of years. I've been at it for over 5 yrs already.

Bit premature but slapped some mudflaps on. Again, hours of messing about modifying for good strong fit... for soddin mudflaps! The faffy jobs dont half swallow up all the time!
Worth it though.. Cant wait to get ma arse in it.

  8. Evenin... trial fittted the front bumper and steps tonight after work, mainly because the stainless coach bolts i'd ordered arrived. Good job I did too, got some fettling to get them right.

This is a really inspirational build. 5 years Eh ? Good staying power then, and definately on the home straight.

@3TNC this was the thread I was talking about. Obviously as he's building his bus in similar conditions to those which I build aircraft jet engines in we are within our rights to make dolls in his image and stick pins in them. :)

  10. What a thread, I've just read the hole thing. Can we have a video of you firing the engine up :)

Love the name in honour of your mam too.

    Bloody well done :)

  12. Evenin all. Did a bit after work tonight. Thought I'd make a start on this front heater. Chopped some more of my heater tube up first of all.

Knocked a support for the heater box together and trial fitted.

The Heater. Looks like over kill but I reckon it will do well in application. I'm going to use 2 of the 70mm outlets, 1 to the totem and the other to the rear vents that exit between the front seats at floor level. Its a 4.5Kw water heater with 3 speed motor. I got it from T7 design. some great little units on the site. Guys cool too, gave me a good deal on this heater, in fact this unit isn't on the site. He suggested this one when I explained what it was for. I measured up off the dimensions he supplied, I knew it was going to be tight, which it is with regards to routing the ducting. Will cross that bridge when the ducting arrives in the post.o_O

  14. Wow what a thread great stuff

I had exact same thing with those window channels, welded them myself to make them useful....

  15. Hey, ta.. N yeah, I ended up bonding them. Looks a bit Heath Robinson but an easy repair and super strong. This stuff is used to glue chassis members together instead of weld... o_O

  16. Looks a tip like I say.. I plug drilled the brackets so the bond would 'wrap' so to speak. Just let it find its own level over night. The metal would now rip before this stuff gave in.

  17. What's it called?

  18. 3m panel bond.

  19. Hi all, long time again I know. Things have been kinda slow, busy with other stuff etc. Anyways, had my exhaust made. Its a pretty simple design as you can see and no doubt will be noisy.. I quite like noisy though, as long as its the right type of noisy. ;)

Put the fans on the rad too, one above, pushing, and one below, pulling.

Dragged the roof down off the shelf outside and brought it in to the workshops to start work on it.

  20. I've just noticed, on the previouse picture... The other stuff I've been on with. That mini comes under that heading. I thought I'll just give it a blow over and give it my son. 18months later, its shelled, painted and currently having a new floor/subframe mount panel before I can build it up. I wouldn't of started it if i'd of known. I've got the engine in little bits on my bench too.:confused:
