Hi all. Some 2 years later.... The resto has continued throughout, I've just not bin in a blogging mood. Been rough times... Anyways, I have lots to upload and will do so in installments. Sorry its been so long... feel like a defector lol. The next few pictures contain shots of the Subaru conversion engine mount bar mounts being welded in position, The EJ22 lump prepped for install, Fuel tank return (trial) and fuel pump installation. Oh, I dressed the cam sprockets n lacquered em, chuft with the result. slot mags.
Impreza seats, the bus is purely for me to enjoy and usability, and these are probably the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. love em, plan to have them covered to match eventually.
Different light makes such a difference. Making a start on the ECU mount and wiring. Im really chuft with the paint and so glad I decided to go back to the original colour.
You're doing it all wrong, you should be in a dirty dark shed full of crap, tripping over your tools, not a F1 pitstop bay. And you're too clean as well.
Hey Matt, gonna blast the steps on the inside with wax via these holes and then probably bond a slither of rubber matting over them. They only there because the steps are modified late bay steps as prototype bay ones weren't, or aren't, available. I had them boxed to replicate prototype bay steps.
Some more pics coming right up... Hmmm, Anybody had any problems with really poor build quality with regards to rear safari windows. I had a nightmare, Bought the thing second hand but new, never fitted. Upon fitment and closing the window I noticed 2 streaks of paint had been removed from either side on the tailgate. The problem was the 2 (1 on either side) screws that fasten the frame together and clamp it around the glass were protruding enough to scratch the body in operation. Was gutted, anyways, had to strip the window down and rebuild. The screws were supposed to be counter sunk but were a poor fit. The main issue turned out to be that the actual piece of glass looked like it had been cut by a 12 yr old with a spork. It took considerable time and work to get this bran new safari window to be a safari window... If I'd of paid £420 I would wanted blood. Was angry enough after paying £200. Ended up completely modifying the seals and bonding the whole thing back together and leaving it over night clamped with cargo straps. sorted it in the end but it took approx 3 evenings to sort it. Hooking a battery up ready to start wiring checks down the line. Oh yeah..About this time I turned this... into this. It raised a much needed lump of cash to inject back into the bus. A mitsubishi lancer evo 10 race radiator was the 1st purchase. Started a mock up fitment with some stainless to get an idea of space and position etc. and some peepers.
Thought I'd try something a little different and mounted the main fuse box behind the passenger seat. The main loom travels from the battery at the rear to this box and then the required feeds for ignition and auxillaries dip down again and proceed to the dash/front end. Tom Shiels flange! Starting to route flow and return for rad. Cleaning up a classic mini heater box, replacing brushes etc. I'm going to have this heater behind the kick board below the bed. Driveshafts on, thought I'd better whilst considering options for routing both wiring and coolant pipes. Pictures may be disjointed slightly as I jump back and forth from chassis to engine to electrics etc.. but that's how it is.. kinda attending to the stuff I've got bits for, as you do.
I gave my firewall to a good friend of mine, Zuf, He's ace with his airbrushes. Just let him get on with something and he came up with this. I love it, nice quirky backdrop for the engine bay. positioning modified mini heater box and routing pipes. Bringing the elec-trickery up to the dash. More progress with the routing of coolant/htr pipes. Fitted a pressure tank to the firewall, deciding how to route the main feed from engine coolant manifold.
