yeah i will get the heating done eventually nedfaux has offered me a few bits and i keep either forgetting or not being able to collect, i've had a lot on......the problem is i have nothing at all so it's not as easy as it sounds to replace, also all the pipe entrys have been blanked off on the van.

  5. I've sold on my heat exchangers but still have the pipework.

Going to plumb my propex into the heating duct under the van with thes neat y connector with a two way flap i acquired/ put the flap on way, goes to the outlets in the back, the other way up to the outlets at the front. Think the propex fan should demist the screen niceley :))

    Cheers

  7. First of all, as much as I hate doing impressions of one's mother, You really should just get your original heat fixed. Just peck at it a part at a time. Even if it takes you a year or two, best to have done with it. And why would somebody have blocked your vents? With what?
Secondly, I find it funny that the mention of a tiny electric heater raises so much concern for your battery, but talk about installing heated seats and everybody thinks it's just the cat's ass. ::)
So get a beefier alternator. Then you can have both. Done and done.
Also, try this if you haven't already. It isn't a sure fix, but it undoubtedly helps quite a bit. It's also good on bathroom mirrors. ;)

I use this propane heater as well. I'm sure you have a similar product in your area. And no it won't kill you. It's catalytic and requires just a tiny amount of ventilation. Fortunately, the good people of Volkswagen have already supplied us with plenty of that without even having to open a window. Just be sure to get one with an automatic shut-off in case it tips, and find a good secure place for it. Obviously can't have one lit up & bangin' round the cab while you're driving.

See? Says safe for indoor heating. And 9000 BTUs will have you toasty in 5 minutes.

  12. A mate of mine went to town on his heating system, made sure there were no leaks, and used exhaust wrap on the heat exchangers... he was getting 60°c+ at the dash vents

so it is possible to get good heat out of the system :)

some good ideas coming on here, keep it up guys, i'm gonna deffo see what i'm up against this weekend - i'll put a few pic's up of the blanked off bits and show you the exchangers i have then we can see what i can "cobble" to at least make some warm air bleed through unassisted to the rear bench vent, my big concern is talk of thermostats etc....where are they and how do i know if they have been removed/wedged open/or whatever the fiddles that may have been done on the van system are to check?

  16. Theres no thermostats on a bays heating dude

You move the lever in the dash and this pulls a cable
The cable is connected to a flap on the end of the heatexchangers
The more the flap is open the more hot air you get

    Simples

  17. What about some thin copper pipe/brake pipe wrapped near the exhaust maybe round your j tubes, a water pump and the cheapest matrix and blower for any car you can find off ebay, plumb it in power it up bobs your uncle fannys your auntie may or she may not, dont know if it would work?

  18. Just light a line of tea light candles on your dash
