  8. Was it testing things out in the bath or the swearing that was scary. Cuz I only meant seeing if the rubber ducky sank or floated and having a eureka moment. The swearing I can only apologise for.

    You could have scored top marks if you'd thrown in a mention of affinity laws, impeller design, volutes and possibly the odd trade name such as Pleuger.
    Not that I would ever shamelessly plug Pleuger, but they are the best submersible pump on the market!

    Apparently they were made by hand because we are on solid rock and in the 1800`s they had not invented drilling machines..

    I have actually made one like that but not so deep because we were very close to a river ( two in fact). We dug a circle 6ft across laid four course of dry bricks and then kept digging down beneath the bricks, they slid down a treat, Clay ground and very hard going at about 6ft down, we hit lots of water at 10ft and that made it really difficult to go down the final 3ft. but we did it and enjoyed it a lot.

    I did have pictures of some of my work but god knows where. I prefer it to have never happened. maybe my aches and pains would suddenly go?

    In a country as wet as Britain, why do you need a well?
    I thought that if you left a bucket out at night you'd have a days supply by morning.
