Depends on the water table I would imagine ,will be different everywhere ?

 

My parents had a shared well in Portugal and they had to pay a back dated tax (10 years)the Portuguese brought in to sting all foreign villa owners ,did the same for their swimming pool ,so they just sold up.

To dig a well get a big spade and dig a hole and then keep going until you hit water, until you hit the water it is just called a hole, something i think i may have dug myself in with this answer.
