How long to strip and rebuild a type 4?

  1. Engine mounts were a tad "secondhand".

  2. Marching forwards there were few other issues.

Are these wire clippy things really necessary?
They look like an invitation to cause havoc?

  3. Heads off and all looks pretty good so far. :)
    No cracks and nothing untoward.

  4. Barrels and pistons all look good, smooth bores, no ridges, no play in little ends or big ends. :)

  5. Nice EMPI rocker covers. :) (somebody will say they're Marmitee now!)

  6. This is the engine number but it means nothing to me.

  7. Did they leak much?

  8. So finally got every single nut and bolt off but I'm buggered if I can split the cases.
    Any ideas?

Is that a crack between the valves 1st pic, right hand?

  17. Oh and another thing, the main crankcase bolts have some Marmitee bit of plastic round them, what's that for?

Have you put a straightedge across the valve stems?

  19. Can't see one, I shall attack it with a wire brush and look beneath the crud.

Locating the havles together acurately when assembling.
