It's probably short on oil Razzyh. Or maybe you just don't start it up of a morning and slap it straight in gear?
Short on oil I'd guess means taking longer to drive off. Though I'm not short of oil as I always make sure there is plenty - do have any idea how much a second hand auto box is, I didn't want mine seizing/welding itself together so always made sure there was plenty of oil.
Are you checking the level with the engine running, and the box in neutral (not park)?? This is very important, and the only way to check the oil level!!
Indeed I am, got a manual and read that from front to back when I got the bus and saw that important info.
...and no idea the price of a second hand box. Could be a can of worms buying a second hand box, it's bad enough trying to find a good manual one!
Indeed, I've seen prices of 800 - 1,200 and that is before a refurb so it's pretty major if its seized.
I've had a few people say to me to change mine to manual, but I love the auto and it would so much work changing to manual and getting all the bits I would need, it would be easier buying a scrap bus and getting al the bits from that, something I don't intend to do.
Cool You'd be amazed at the amount of people who don't know that tho!! It's hard to fully diagnose what's going on without seeing it... But I would suggest that if you're going down the route of another box, then the best option is to get yours rebuilt... you know it's not making any odd noises, it's just the engagement lag
Hold on - are you talking about mine again - no need to panic, my small leak will be fixed by Stephens engineering, where it is now - I have no intention of changing it, just others have said to me to change it to manual.
Easy, yours leaks a bit, mine (not actually mine) leaks everywhere and has initial engagement lag when bus first started. Later in the day start it again and it's fine. I don't think either have any proper problems. I wouldn't bother getting a spare - FidoDido did and it sat in his garage for at least 10 years until he sold the bus, then sold the gearbox to wilma. I had the engine that went with it. Actually I bet it sat in his garage for 15 years because I had the engine 10 years ago. If they work and you look after them they appear to be very robust.
