Gas millage ..? Who's getting what ....?

  1. The pancake ones were the ones that come with the 34 ICT kits e.g. these and were less than 6 months old. Just type K&N RA-0520 into Google to see the new cone style ones I have. Btw I haven't been back to the rolling road yet see what difference the K&N ones make over the last test which were with no air filters but will let you know when I do.

K&Ns will be far more efficient than anything supplied as standard so suspect you've made a good choice :). I tried to clean the foam in the supplied ones and wasn't sure by the time I'd finished whether it was any cleaner/better than when I'd started and one has had to be reglued already.o_O

Hi Andy. Where did you go for rolling road. Any good?

  4. I suspect it's the glue that is causing the major issues on my pancake ones - I have just taken a picture of the inside of one of mine but they are both like this so I can't imagine how air can make it's way through them!

  5. I'm up in Newcastle Upon Tyne and found Orange Grove Racing near me (their Facebook page here) and they definitely know their engines / cars!

  6. I just bought two new pancake ones from Eurocarb. Haven't driven the bus for nearly two years but when I took it down the local dual carriage way yesterday it seemed to run of out steam (feeling like it was being strangled at 60 - its a 1700 type 4) I'm wondering if its carp air filters that are causing this. I can't remember it driving like this before.

  7. I actually rang Eurocarb a couple of weeks ago with details of my 10 bhp or more differences with the pancake air filters on (I'm pretty sure JK source their kits from them anyway) and asked them if they had any complaints about those style filters and they said they hadn't  Maybe I was unlucky but personally I would go with any cone style air filter for 34 ICT's over the pancake ones, these 'Empi' ones from JK for a similar price as pancake ones.

Thanks Andy. I'm also in Newcastle. It's good to get recommend garages. So you think they can be trusted with our old busses and not just turbo scoobies etc. I'd love to know the bhp of mine. Standard 2.0 but with twin drla's. Do they stock jets.

  9. I don't think they had any jets smaller than 150 when I was there but yes I would 100% give Lee and the lads there a ring and have a chat as they cover everything from old classic to new stuff. @Paul Weeding popped down with me and I'm sure he will back me up on recommending them

Nice one. I've got an oil leak to fix and a new exhaust to fit first but I think I'll look into this more.

  11. Most definitely get a  from me :)

  12. I think i shall have to source some new air filters for next year, just calculated my mpg over the last 500 miles and it averaged 16.6mpg ... now I know there was a lot of driving up and down steep Devon lanes but is seems rather low?

I used to have a 1700 Westy. That mileage is thrashing around town short journeys mpg. You should get low 20's, maybe 23mpg averaged out over a few tankfuls and that's not sparing the horses.
    Mine did 60mph in 3rd.

  14. Sounds like I need to investigate, what I need to investigate I have no idea :(

Mine was like that when the original solex carb spindles were very worn. Pulled like a train on choke for a minute then felt held back. After I had the carbs rebuilt it was great.

  16. 450 miles round Dumfries and Galloway, fully loaded and on A and B roads averaged 23.3mpg. Looking into twin 34ict carbs at the mo. ;)

K&Ns are more than likely much better but considerably more expensive so will give these a run and see what they're like.
Intriguingly the packaging has a little sticker which says 'not suitable for highway use' so maybe they're going to be loud - useful if you have a Facet fuel pump; we'll see.

Two people, one with enough clothes to change three time a day, no not me.

25mpg, 2056 with twin 40 IDFs & electric fuel pump (not sure that has any bearing on anything). :D
