Gas millage ..? Who's getting what ....?

  1. We get about 20 around the lanes and 24 on a motorway run full of all the stuff. 1641 twin 34 ict's. Standard steels. Do alloys really make a difference to engine speed and therefore MPG?

  2. I once got my landrover back from Arran on just 2 gallons of diesel. granted almost all of it was on an AA truck as it had bent a pushrod.

  3. 'Dan's Bus ', 1600 tp, has done +/- 20 mpg all of its life...................that's what they do, end of story.

  4. Long gentle 55mph motorway run ..... 30mpg [IMG]

  5. We average about 24mpg on all types of driving (not a lot of motorway) for a 2l injected westy, fully rebuilt engine. @dubsurftones it looks like you're getting 18mpg is it an auto?

It's great how some 40 year old buses can do almost 50% more mpg than they did when new.

  7. No its not an auto ,
I have to fix it every day .!

Actually i am getting fuel injectors that have to be better than the ones i hsve in the mail .
    This week .
So maybe that will boost it ,

  8. Went to Corfe Castle and back from bristol including a bit of tootling around whilst down there this weekend.

Filled up before we set off and got home again without running out of fuel. Don't know how many miles it was or how much fuel we used but had a good weekend. (Once we eventually left...)

  9. 25 mpg on a long run up to Eskdale and back - fully laden - motorway and dual carriageway - oh and few hills.
21 mpg running about town - short runs - lots of gear changes.

  10. I never felt the need to do the mpg on any vehicles ,just another worry gauge ,if it runs out put some more in ,if you are worried financially buy a fiat...

  11. Yeah but it's running too lean :p

Mines around 24mpg on a run, 2.0 injection

  12. But speaking English...

Mine in it's rather crap 1955cc days did 24mpg the whole time. Now I've beefed it up I get 20mpg average just like you do... but I have 134BHP. It takes a certain amount of energy to cruise at a particular speed whatever the engine? It's the accelerating that does for your MPG. I can get mine down to 10-15mpg if I try really hard.

'78 GE engine T4 2.0l standard US spec FI with Westy pop & full camping interior. Bit heavier than standard Camp-mobile Deluxe due to 15kg solar, 11kg gas, larger leisure battery & propex. Aerodynamic front mounted spare helps :D

17 to 22, fully laden mainly non motorway A roads over a total of 7K miles last year. A good reason to sort out the sticky front caliper as we have seen 24 mpg as average with similar travelling style.

  16. My 1800cc westy is more like 16mpg - maybe some room for improvement. If I achieve 20 that would be more economical to run than my car

  17. Just back from 2 weeks in Cornwall, got between 24 and 26mpg. 400 miles each way plus trips was approx 1000 miles total. Type 4 1800 fully loaded, 4 people and awning on front roof rack.

  18. I'm pretty sure US fuel has a lower octane rating than in Europe too, so it isn't really a fair comparison. UK fuel is anywhere between 95 and 99 RON depending on Premium/Super unleaded. I think US gas was maybe 85 or 88? when I was in Florida a couple of years ago?
