  1. Try nipping the bolts a bit tighter before undoing them this sometimes allows the corrosion to break and you wont damage the faces of the bolt used to undo it

If you do get them cracked but there still stiff then keep applying plus gas and rock the bolt back and forth a bit at a time to free it slowly

  2. had another go on caliper bolts today. theyve soaked in plusgas for 24hrs and then i gave them another squirt today but theyre not moving at all. wont crack or tighten or untighten. used breaker bar, big hammer but no joy. suppose the only other option is heat?

My rattle gun is truly rubbish and even that gets them off.

I will try with my rattly hands and see how it goes, volkswombat is more girl than boy, more string than muscle, more tea maker than mechanic, I have tried to show him but he is blinded and stands in aawww when I chop huge bit of his van off then disappear for weeks :D

  10. I used to deal with some stubborn bolts by putting the socket on the breaker bar then rest the other end of the breaker bar on the trolley jack
Then use the hydraulic force of the jack to move the breaker bar
Once youve lifted a vehicle of its axle stand doing that you realise that the bolt really is siezed lol

I've done that if space to swing the bar is tight. :) Gearbox drain plug for example once.

  12. Managed to get them off first thing this morning before the magicIan arrived. Longer breaker did it. Did consider using the jack method but didn't need to. Cheers for the replies as always anyway.
We've had a productive day, got the inner rear valance in, new rear chassis leg in which David fabbed up, and also the tinware trays which sit on top of chassis legs in. He also fabbed those. And a bit of patchwork around d posts. No photos just yet just a brief update, just Had time for tea and a shower and now off to work, try and get photos up tomorrow

  13. Making good progress

Brake calipers are toast. 1 caliper both bleed nips were long gone, the other only 1 left. All seals are completely wasted. Pistons are seized and actually crumbling. I think a new set of callipers is easiest route

  15. Few more pics. We removed the fuel tank for doing welding in engine bay. Here's my filler pipes,

New pipes will be ordered, as well as replacing all the joins on the breather pipes and the fuel line itself

As well as crappy callipers I had one brake disc about half the thickness of the other, both looking very sorry for themselves

Luckily for me mr davidoft has gifted me a pair of discs, part worn but very useable, saving me few quid.
    Thank you darling.

I've just got to catch up with tidying welds up, a few more welds to do on battery tray and a couple of minor patches in other places, David's back next week to fit rear arch then that's all the welding done. I'm going for an on the road target of end September, give or take.
Still to do after welding - minor filler work, some paint on new panels ( this will be a roller/brush job), cv boot, rebuild brakes, underseal, waxoyl cavities, and get engine running nicely/tidy up.
