  3. Knows his stuff, its worth getting him round just to hang your cab doors properly. Tried to put my door on by myself today......snigger.....well it shuts....just.

Fuel lines were all done not long before van went off road but ill give them a check. At the moment the plan is just to get it motd and back on the road, I really cant justify having it rotting away in the garden any longer. Once its going again ill be workin my way round doing all the other things that need doing, but its gotta be on the road and being used. In 3/4/5 years time itll get the rest of the bodywork done like the front panels, and a proper paint job.

when time allows will attack the back end with wire wheel and see what happens......

  5. Go and look up poptops resto thread
I think its missing s few bits through the forum crashes

I was the first late bay member he met and i went and poked holed all over his bus
I felt bad for saying it but i told him to get rid and buy a better one it was proper rotten
Hes a stubborn bugger though and he carried on and restored it and hes had some great times camping and days out

  6. okaaaay, its amazing what a wire wheel can find.
lets start with the good. it doesn't last long. offside rear chassis rail still appears to be solid but has had a bash just above bottom I think, you can see its indented.

  7. that's getting on for an inch of filler in places. much worse than I had thought. why wouldn't it be? I was naïve enough to think that the outer valance had been replaced at some point. I was right, it had been replaced with filler......

Dear mr bat, I hope you have fixed all the other holes before making new ones!! Leave the rear valance and rear corners alone, it's not mot stuff, the chassis is and it looks ok to me( I can fix it in half a day I think), though engine removal may make it easier its not essential. Put up some pictures of stuff you have welded up :),

  9. I have one word for you davidoft........................kerching!!! :D

What about the battery trays and the rear of the other rear arch? ££££

  14. What about indeed. Defo do the chassis leggage. Let me get my head round rest of it. If im gonna go for it then its n/s arch, 2 batt trays, valances, both corners so we're talking 250?? ish for panels. plus labour. hmmmmmm mystic meg might say she sees one man getting richer and one man getting poorer in the near future#!

  15. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

You need thicker filler next time.

  16. I think I need a thicker wallet!

  18. Dave from accounts was back yesterday to perform some more martial arts - choppy outty.
    Rear valances gone
    [IMG]

Offside battery tray and lower corner
    [IMG]

    N/s lower corner off
    [IMG]

but original batt tray is still good
    [IMG]

And n/s rear chassis leg off
    [IMG]

More new panels ordered ready for next time. He also started fabricating the tinware which sits on top of the chassis leg but i forgot to take a pic. Today i finished grinding out the batt tray remains, and tried to do the final patch on the beam but my welder decided not to cooperate so that looks guff hence no pic

  20. David was meant to come round today for more Weldy Weldy but it was hosing it down this morning so we cancelled as he doesn't like to get his hair wet. Rescheduled for Thursday. However it stopped raining after dinner so I went out to do some little bits. Got the beam patch finished

Started checking the brakes and the cv joints, see mec/tech posts!

Rear brake cylinder was leaky, that'll be why my fluid reservoir is empty!
The fluid had affected the shoes so badly the lining material was soft enough to pick off with my fingers
    [IMG]

On the other non leaky side I discovered a brake shoe with less lining material than it should have
    [IMG]
The material hadn't fallen off or worn away, it's a clean cut across the shoe about two inches up from bottom of shoe. Looks like a manufacturing fault maybe? Surely not right.
Edit - or maybe that's completely normal. What the hell do I know.
    New shoes all round anyway.

Also gave the front caliper bolts a soaking of plus gas ready to try and get them off. They were going nowhere today even with my huge truck drivers arms wrestling on a breaker bar
